The struggling fast-food giant's sales have fallen recently and their new CEO, Steve Easterbrook, unveiled a turnaround plan on Monday morning. And he did not mince words when discussing the company's problems.
Recognizing that recent performance was "poor" and that "the numbers don't lie" - some of the challenges he faces are:
But what Easterbrook really wants to change is the quality of the food and the stale brand image. He stressed that they need to innovate more. What do you think?

I always thought it would be nice to have a salad with my hamburger instead of automatically getting fries. You are offering healthier options for kids, but grown ups don't get a chance to choose. Give us a choice while ordering. Ask us if we want a salad or fries.
more Kids meal options with more fruits in it.
ugh average at best. their workers always looked unhappy and since one of their workers called me a fat@$$ i haven't been back
I think they need to look at their pricing. I remember in the 90's they had a special for $.25 hamburgers and I bet they sold a lot. Also I remember the All-American meal being cheap as well. Maybe they should focus more on offering combos for less than five dollars.
I love that they have started to incorporate more healthy options for children. Bring this into the adult world and expand on both sides. Reduce portion sizes and keep it real. Is a side salad an option for my value meal instead of french fries? If it isn't, it should be!
I think it would help if they could get the order right more often. We often find that items are missing from our order.
Cut back on extra paper for packaging. Tad thicker patties...and bigger SMILES...
I think McDonald's needs to simplify it's menu. Reduce some of the items, stick to what people love, and have loved for decades. (Burgers, fries, shakes...). There is no need to try and be the next Subway or Chipotle. I also think if the menu were to be downsized the money that is subsequently saved could be invested into higher quality food. No one expects McDonald's to be Michelin star quality, it is fast food after all. Simplify the menu and up the quality a bit.
1. Bring back fried pies. Just stick with the basics (Apple & Cherry and chill on the seasonal items). 2. Offer fruit juices OR coffee with breakfast meals and don't charge an additional fee for juice. 3. Burritos. 1 large burrito instead of 2 small ones and use real cheese vs. processed cheese. 4. The egg mcmuffin is great, but you hardly get any meat in it. The canadian bacon slice keeps getting thinner and thinner over the years. Not good. People want meat in their breakfast sandwiches. 5. Offer "sides" vs. just fries with everything. Let people have a choice much like the kids happy meals. We want adult happy meals. I'd be happier if I could choose a side salad vs. fries sometimes. 6. Bring Macaroons & broth bowls to the US. 7. Your fish sandwiches need a whole slice of cheese vs. that half slice. 8. Chocolate ice cream. If McDonald's offered chocolate cones or chocolate ice cream in their sundaes, OMG, I'd be there everyday. 9. We need a BLT!!!
To me, what separates McDonald's from the competition is that they're everywhere! We only eat fast food when we're traveling and inevitably my children want to eat when McDonald's is one of the few options. I wouldn't be so against eating there if I didn't feel like I was pouring chemicals straight into my family's mouths. Even the salad that I usually get seems completely full of chemicals. Similarly, give us some healthy choices.....really healthy. Iceberg lettuce doesn't have any nutrients. Romaine or spinach would be a great option. Apple slices coated in whatever they are coated in makes the kids not want to eat them. How about baby carrots? They keep longer and don't need a bunch of preservatives to taste good.
I like the way McDonald's has been trying to add healthier items to their menu. I like their Yogurt 'N Fruit Parfait, their Premium Salads, and the Egg McMuffin. I think they are improving their children's menu options. I would like to be able to get fresh fruit: seedless grapes, bananas, apples, tangerines, melon cups, etc. It would help me balance the nutrition in meal choices if more fruit options were available.
There are a lot more consumers educated about the ingredients in the products they consume. Nobody wants fillers or pesticide foods. Focus on quality food made from non-gmo and organic farming. We all want to eat healthier. Can you add a non soy, non gmo, quality veggie burger to the menu with real plant foods? I think that would be a great addition to round out your customer base. Also take out beef broth from your French fries! Take a look at In N Out French fries. Natural potatoes on site. Stop using Soy fillers. Try gluten free option buns for that crowd.
Lower the sodium level in the fries. It's too much.
I think larger , real hamburgers and make food to order so it's always hot and fresh. No one likes stale fries and warm burgers.
McDonald's needs to focus on just a handful of items; a burger, a bigger burger, chicken strips, and fries. Maybe some transitional items a few times a year. Keep prices low, meals reasonably sized (forget the mega sized), and make it consistent quality. But, treat employees well and take the time to teach them to be positive. I couldn't believe how nicely I was treated at one McD's every time I came through and yet the few times I had to go somewhere else, it was awful. I made it a point to go to that McDs as result. Reward good customer service. And focus on consistency because that's what keep people coming back and knowing that whatever else is on the road, McD's will have XYZ and it will taste/cost/ smell the same.
