Did you wear uniforms? Do your kids? What do you think about them?
In favor of uniforms: Less pressure about what to wear, so higher focus on learning (72.2%)
Against uniforms: Kids should be able to wear what they like & are comfortable in (27.8%)
I never wore a uniform in school, nor did my daughter. My old school now requires a uniform. BUT there is a lot of flexibility for both the guys and the gals. The mix and match guidelines allow some room for kids to have some control over what they wear.
I love the uniform concept for schools. This eliminates the hemming and hawing about what to where each day. It also reduces the teasing that often comes with what kids are wearing.
I wore a uniform in my high school and loved it! Never had to spend hours figuring out what to wear each week because the school had already decided. We wore khaki skirts and white polo shirts. They were very comfortable.
Yup- this way there is NO arguments when we buy them, and it takes a whole lot less time to get my daughter ready in the am before school! private school plaids may be ugly, but they are the great equalizer!
We homeschool but I don't mind the idea of uniforms
I went to 12 years of Catholic school and wore a uniform every day. There was no arguing about what to wear every day, and I'm sure it helped my parents with their back-to-school budget since I was one of 6 kids. I strongly support school uniforms for all!
I like for my daughter to be able to wear what she wants but I understand the want/need for uniforms in some schools. I never wore uniforms and so far my kids haven't either.
It's a good idea. When we have been on vacation in other countries and they have uniforms, they say it is easy to tell which school the child is from. That's a good thing. It would seem that it would be cheaper since it wouldn't matter if you are wearing the same thing everyday, there is no pressure to not be seen in the same outfit too soon.
My kids don't wear uniforms yet as they are still in public school for a few more years and I can't wait to make that transition to private school when they start Jr. High - no more arguments and trying to figure out what to wear. I wish more public school embraced this. It is a win-win
Definitly in favor of (affordable) uniforms. I remember the peer pressure of wearing the 'right' clothes. My family couldn't afford those labels. It made me unhappy.
