One of the best books I've read in a long time, the Help is set during the civil rights movement in Jackson, Miss., where black women were trusted to raise white children. One brave white woman who is fed up with the hypocrisy decides to write a book to tell the stories of these black maids. The result is a story that is both heart-wrenching and filled with hope at the same time. I found the book to be an extremely quick read, and like that it is told by three different perspectives. Overall, this was a great book that tackled a sensitive topic with poignancy and grace. I would highly recommend it to anyone!

I am not sure what it was about this book.... it was phenomenal! It was something I would not normally pick up, set in the early 60's about housewives and their maids, but I am forever glad that I did. It was an intoxicating story that kept me interested from beginning to end. I learned more about what the life of a maid must have been like than I would generally care to know, but found it empowering, honest and something that made me want to learn and read more. Read this book. So good.

A great book. This is the author's first book and its a best seller, amazing! She has a wonderful way of saying things. This is a great book for a book club or summer read.

MS Stockett, please give us more! This was a terrific summer read. Stockett invites the reader into the world of 1960's Mississippi, a world clearly seen in black and white. The color comes from the strong women who find their voice. I loved my time with this book and truly did not want it to end. Delicious!

Really enjoyed reading this book this summer. This book gave me a huge perspective of these times. I have already told my best friend she needs to read this book!

This is a wonderful book. I am a nanny so the subject was of interest to me. It amazes me how the wealthy work. Of course this is fiction but it is set in a time period that I have not experienced. The women in this book are brave. I enjoyed this book. I have recommened this book to many of my friends.

This was one of the best books I've read this year. I read two three books a week and I have already went back and read this again

I agree that this book was a good read. it was not only historical and had a social conscious but the characters were fun and relatable. I enjoyed it.

I didn't want this story to end, I could have continued with the characters long after the last page. Stockett does an exceptional job bringing the reader into the lives of women in the early 1960s in Mississippi. Highly, highly recommend this one!

I did not want to read this book. Three different clients brought it in for me to read. I passed the books onto other clients. I work in a salon and it's all anyone could talk about. Eventually, I broke down and read it one day when I was home sick. I do mean, one day! Now, I'm a fast reader, but that was crazy fast. I could not put it down. I got sucked in by the fabulous character development but the story, WOW! I did not want it to end. I am looking forward to the movie but I hope they don't change it around and ruin it.

Wow, I REALLY loved this book. I fell in love with the characters. It opened my eyes to what life must have been like in the 60's. This book was so educational that I feel it should be on high school required reading lists. I gave it to my daughter and she enjoyed it too. I can't wait to see the movie!!!

I just finished this last night! I fell in love with the characters and the writing style! I love when an author can write so well, that you become part of the story and make you want to just reach out and touch the characters!

This was absolutely one of the best book I have ever read. It could pass for non-fiction in my mind. I think I knew some of those women. I think it is a must read for the younger generation who never went through the sixties. I would love to see a sequel. I have already recommended it to everyone I know and to some people I do not know online.

Wonderful book! I can't wait for more books by Ms. Stockett. She brings a face to this terrible time in our history. My Mother had a nanny growing up like these nannies described in this book. Thank goodness my grandmother (my mother's mother) never treated her "Help" like this. Willie Mae was a part of our family and helped my Mother after I was born and my sister was born.

This was a fantastic book! I rarely get the time to sit down and read, so the books I choose must be worth my precious time. This one definitely was. I read it in two days over a holiday weekend, and enjoyed it so much that I didn't want it to end. I see that it is now being made into a movie. Normally I don't like to see movies made from books, but I am anxious to see this one when it comes out.
