School is an important rite of passage for everyone. To some kids it's fun and exciting, to others it's a boring daily routine; and at both their favorite and most despised place. But those of us who have been out of school, we know that school days are the best times of your life!

What’s your favorite school memory? A teacher? Recess? Your classroom crush? Back-to-school shopping? Playing team sports?

To get you started, here are favorite school memories from the team at SheSpeaks, and a few other notable people we like.

“I remember, on my first day of Kindergarden I was extremely nervous to take the bus for the first time. I sat right in the front, but when my older (and not always inclusive) brother boarded the bus, he took my hand and led me to the back to sit with him and his friends informing me that the back of the bus was "where the cool kids sat." I definitely needed that boost!" - Amy

"In the 4th grade I transferred to a new K-8 Catholic school. The uniforms (plaid jumpers) from both schools were so similar that my mom refused to order a new pair for me. Needless to say my plaid jumper stuck out from everyone else's until about the 7th grade!" - Theresa

"My family and I would always have a back to school dinner before the school year started." - John

"One of my favorite back-to-school memories is not actually going back to school but looking at the first day of school pictures months and years later - the kids are so cute and the new backpack for school always looks so crisp and ready for a new year of adventures!" - Ann

“My favorite part of going back to school was always shopping for school supplies. Being the nerd that I am, I loved having fresh notebooks and pens! Supplies shopping may have been my favorite part of summer.” - Emily

“I remember taking a picture with a group of friends at a “back-to-school” picnic hosted by the College. We weren’t told that the picture was going to be used for various marketing pieces for the school. So we were surprised to find that picture in every poster, view book and marketing material the entire time we were there. I was always recognized as the “poster-child” by people, but it really was a great picture that made for great marketing!” – Christine

My favorite memory was making friends the first day of class and ending up hanging out with them all summer.

My favorite memory is from when I was in 4th grade. There was a program for students that had good grades where we could go out and have an extra long recess and we got a recess outside in the snow when the school usually has recess inside during the winter. I thought my grades weren't good enough so I didn't bring my snow suit. Obviously I cried because I had good grade and couldn't go outside. My teacher said we should see if her snow suit would fit. She helped me put it on and it was a little long so we shoved as much of it in my boots as we could and I got to go out with all my friends. That is something I will never forget and she has a permanent place in my heart.

I'm a nerd and my favorite memories were of the class lining up to do multiplication tables as a race. It made me feel great to be the fastest! I also looked forward to collecting a bunch of paper bags from Jewel so I could draw and decorate them and use them as book covers (since we couldn't afford the cool looking ones from the store). But I loved the creative part of me!

My favorite memory from school was going to our school dances. No matter how bad the days of school were and long - when we'd have our dances on Friday nights Id go and spend time with my friends and act goofy and dance! Dancing has always been something that brings joy to my life I learned that early on while going to the dances. Oh, how I miss being young and miss all my friends!

I always thought my first grade teacher was the meanest, nastiest human being on the planet. Our paths crossed near the end of my senior year of high school and she not only remembered me, she blew me away. it turns out she had saved a paper I wrote and she insisted on sending it to me. When asked to write a "story" in class, I had written the entire Pledge of Allegiance. I thought nothing of it, but to her it was the "most moving experience of her entire teaching career." I graduated high school back in 1971 and even today, whenever I doubt my own abilities, I still return to that conversation and smile. Hindsight being 20/20, this poor woman had 2 sets of IDENTICAL TWINS and several kids who would now qualify as massively ADHD all in one first grade classroom....she was a saint!!!!!

I remember when I used to get together with my girlfriends for lunch and go eat pizza at Nicky's cafe. We had so many laughs and lots of fun -- too bad they don't let the kids out to enjoy lunches like I did.

My favorite school memory is actually a tradition... every year my mother would make a very big deal of the first day of school. Big homecooked breakfast, we'd all eat together (there were 5 of s kids) and then when it was time for the school bus to come for the older kids (we started at two different times, so the 3 older kids went together and then the younger later), my mom would take pictures of us all together... Now that we are all alot older it is memories like this that we each cherish.

My 3rd grade teacher was the most disliked woman on the planet. Her name was Miss Colwell, and I did not like her. One day I lost my balance on the jungle gym. I was hanging by one hand and the back of my head slammed into the metal bars. I bled everywhere. This teacher who I despised put me in her car and drove me home because my parents couldn't come and get me. I didn't tell her thank you, but I am so thankful to her because of her help.

My favorite school memory is our "Friday Movie" my HS Principal would give us a incentive for going to school everyday. On Fridays for 5th & 6th period he would let students on list enter his "Movie Theater" it was definitely my favorite and got me off of bed every morning I never wanted to miss getting my name on the Movie List.

My favorite school memories are the science lab classes in 8th grade with a beloved teacher, Mr. Dorn. My lab partner was one of the cutest boys in our class and we became good friends. We actually made glass pipettes and did lots of cool dangerous things back in 1981!! We enjoyed the other team of boys that shared our table. They were a giant football player and a tiny Chinese American boy and were hilarious together. Luckily, you could be a small smart kid at our school and not be bullied and I always think about our quartet when I hear about bullying. I'm proud that we supported kids of all shapes, sizes and races.

I remember having to give my very first speech in 9th grade. I was absolutely terrified. I stood up, gave the speech, and was convinced that my voice and hands were shaking the entire time, and that everyone knew. When I finished, I had several friends come up to me and ask me what I did to be so confident and give such a great speech. I even got an A on it. I was amazed. It made me really understand that other people perceive me differently than how I perceive myself. It was a very proud moment for me!
