School is an important rite of passage for everyone. To some kids it's fun and exciting, to others it's a boring daily routine; and at both their favorite and most despised place. But those of us who have been out of school, we know that school days are the best times of your life!

What’s your favorite school memory? A teacher? Recess? Your classroom crush? Back-to-school shopping? Playing team sports?

To get you started, here are favorite school memories from the team at SheSpeaks, and a few other notable people we like.

“I remember, on my first day of Kindergarden I was extremely nervous to take the bus for the first time. I sat right in the front, but when my older (and not always inclusive) brother boarded the bus, he took my hand and led me to the back to sit with him and his friends informing me that the back of the bus was "where the cool kids sat." I definitely needed that boost!" - Amy

"In the 4th grade I transferred to a new K-8 Catholic school. The uniforms (plaid jumpers) from both schools were so similar that my mom refused to order a new pair for me. Needless to say my plaid jumper stuck out from everyone else's until about the 7th grade!" - Theresa

"My family and I would always have a back to school dinner before the school year started." - John

"One of my favorite back-to-school memories is not actually going back to school but looking at the first day of school pictures months and years later - the kids are so cute and the new backpack for school always looks so crisp and ready for a new year of adventures!" - Ann

“My favorite part of going back to school was always shopping for school supplies. Being the nerd that I am, I loved having fresh notebooks and pens! Supplies shopping may have been my favorite part of summer.” - Emily

“I remember taking a picture with a group of friends at a “back-to-school” picnic hosted by the College. We weren’t told that the picture was going to be used for various marketing pieces for the school. So we were surprised to find that picture in every poster, view book and marketing material the entire time we were there. I was always recognized as the “poster-child” by people, but it really was a great picture that made for great marketing!” – Christine

As a military brat I went to school in several foreign countries. We had a blast in school. I remember keeping TJ Swann wine in my locker in a coke can and sipping from it at lunch. I used to hang out in the smokers area even though I didn't smoke. That is where all the cool kids hung out. I remember skipping school with my girlfreind and we got caught by my boyfriend. He took us back to school and caught us again as we were leaving school grounds. He returned us to school again and drew attention to us by driving the wrong way down a one way street in front of the school. We went inside trying to figure out what to do when we heard our names called. The principal had seen us and called us over the intercom while we were standing in the girls bathroom. I guess he went bathroom to bathroom til he found us and then took us to the office and called our parents. That part wasn't fun.

My favorite back to school memory is actually my first school memory; the first day of kindergarten. We didn't have much money, so my mom scrapped together what she could and bought me a brand new Oshkosh jeans dress and a beautiful pink back pack. We showed up early and had a mini photo shoot on a camera borrowed from our neighbors. I had never felt so special and like such a big girl. Coming from a family with 5 siblings, it's hardly ever only about one kid and this was my special day. My mom stayed with me to find my desk and get settled in and when the time was right, she left me to enjoy the rest of my day. When she came to pick me up, we went on our first of many mommy daughter dates to celebrate the big day. I only hope my boys have the great memories of school and me that I do of my mom.

I was the really quiet kid in school and I thought I was not very smart or talented just average. It was not until I was about 12 and my sixth grade teacher Mrs Quinlan sat me down and told me that she believed in me and my ability to be the best person I could be. She would award kids for various different reasons the honor of being "student of the week" and she awarded this opportunity to me. I was in shock but felt very special for once. Part of my student a week duties were to be class monitor, but as a bonus I was given one subject period (when other students were to read) I could do arts and crafts. She encouraged my creative talent which no one has ever done before and this had a substantial impact on me. My grades and self esteemed soared after that. I believe in my heart because of her initial support college became a reality.

One of my favorite memories is from my early kindergarten days, coming home from my first day of school, sitting on my parents front porch. My mom was videotaping me, feeding me her freshly made chocolate chip cookies, and asking me all sorts of questions about my first day of school. It is a memory we have captured on tape and something we enjoy watching over and over together, reliving old memories :)

My favorite school memory was school shopping with my mom and later in my teens with my friends. Having new things for school is always nice. Some of my other favorite memories are the teachers who had a big impact on my life and way of thinking. Great teachers help foster great adults.

I loved going shopping for school supplies with my dad. For some reason we all did this with him and it was always at night after he got off work. When we didn't have enough money he would say to hold off a week and he would get it for us. It was usually thing that we didn't need but that we liked and he still go it. He often woke up early when we remembered that thing we needed for a class but forgot about it while at the store. My dad always made sure his children had the best and he always got us the latest and cutest things so we could be happy. We loved telling him how people asked where we got things and how people said we had the best dad... we do have a great dad :)

When my first grade "boyfriend" gave me a ring with a pretty picture on it. . . later the top of the ring with the picture encased in it unglued and I lost it in the grass at a friend's house. Never found it and subsequently (5th grade) we broke up anyhow.

When I was younger my dad would always try to get us things we needed even if it wasn't name brand. Back then it was "cool" to have the name brand clothing and shoes. When I finally entered into middle school and joined the basketball team my dad and I went out and he bought me some brand new nike shoes to use for basketball. I felt so special and appreciated them so much. Till this day my dad helps with my kids and gets them some school stuff.

When I was 5 year old my dad , who was in the Air Force, was stationed at a new base in the middle of the school year. I was terrified to go to a brand new school all alone. I had bright red hair and looked like Pippi Longstockings! I will always remember going to that classroom and being introduced by the teacher to all those staring eyes. The class was full so I would have to have desk brought in and was just about to cry when as little girl who had the prettiest jet black hair came up to me took my hand and said "you can have my desk and be my best friend". That was 30 years ago and today she is still my best friend in the world.

I STILL remember having a substitute teacher in 4th grade stop his lesson and accuse me of attempting to disrupt the class when I blew my nose. I had allergies and, this time, a bad cold, and my nose blowing used to sound like a serious FOGHORN, but it was never purposefully to disrupt the class, it was just a really loud nose blowing!!

My favorite memory is when I was in Catholic school as a young girl and I was so excited to get new penny loafer's ever year during back to school shopping. It was a big ritual, my brother and I would try to find the shiniest pennies to put in our loafers.
