When successful women help other talented women get a leg up in this world, truly magical things happen. This is the message from a new LeanIn.org campaign that features prominent female actors, athletes, and a TV journalist lending their voice to Sheryl Sandberg’s cause. As COO of Facebook and founder of LeanIn.org Sandberg has become the voice for successful women everywhere and her aim is to keep women working and winning together.
Cosmopolitan reports abot the new PSA from the LeanIn.org campaign that features famous successful women discussing other women in their lives that helped them get to the place they are now. Serena Williams, Lena Dunham, Kerry Washington, and Emma Watson take part in the conversation about how women themselves can play a big part in helping other women succeed.
Kerry Washington is seen in the PSA crediting Scandal creator, Shonda Rhimes, for her success in acting. She says, “I’m not really sure what my life would look like if it were not for Shonda Rhimes.” She later adds, “She has so much power, but she wields it so compassionately and responsibly.”
Emma Watson gushes about how director Sofia Copola supported her work and helped her to believe in herself. And FoxNews anchor, Megyn Kelly, who was in the spotlight earlier this year after Donald Trump made sexist remarks about her, talks about the women who rallied around her. She says, “One of the most heartening parts of this past year, for me, has been the outpouring of support I've received from women.”
And support, it seems, is what women really need. According to data from Leanin.org, women will not truly have gender parity in corporate leadership roles in this country for another one hundred years. Sandberg explains, “We can't wait that long for change, which is why women have to act now. When we support each other, we help level the playing field and get to equality more quickly. When women work together, we accomplish amazing things.”
