Mothers really do know best!

Somehow they always come up with the right thing to say or do & their guidance lasts a lifetime. That’s why we’re rounding up all of their best advice in our Thanks Mom Giveaway – where you can tell us about your Mom & enter to win a $100 American Express Gift Card!$PullQuote$

For most of us, it was Mom who urged us to “think before you speak” and explained that “actions speak louder than words” – but beyond the basics, we’d love to know a little bit more about what makes your Mom so special to you? Did you inherit some of her superhero qualities? Was there a time when her advice (either hilarious, practical or wise) made a lasting impact?

To enter, just comment below and you'll be eligible to win a $100 American Express Gift Card!

Here is the exquisite "Baby Mine" from Dumbo, sung by Bette Midler.

Happy Mother's Day to all of our SheSpeaks Moms!!

My mom has always been the type who puts others before herself. I think I've taken on that trait as I've grown older. I never thought I'd have such a nurturing side to me, comparing how I was when I was younger!

Always have a sense of humor. My brother is mentally ill @ sense of humor came in handy. She also said save for a rainy day!

My mom taught me and my 4 brothers and sisters to always stand up for ourselves and never "settle". She supported us in whatever it was we wanted to do and encouraged us to be our own individuals and never follow the crowd. These are lessons that all 5 of us have now passed on to our own children.

My mom came to the U.S. in the early 1980s to give me a better education and a future. She became a maid and housekeeper to put me and my sister through college. I honor her and the sacrifices she made to provide opportunities for me.

When entertaining, mom told me to always make sure everyone attending your party is actively engaged in a conversation with someone, no one feels left out.

My mom is a wonderful person. My dad and mom raised 7 children. My mom is a very loving caring person. She taught us to be respectful of other people. She also taught us to take care of the elderly. She taught us to help others. She loved to bake and share with everyone. She is in assisted living and is in a wheelchair. She is very special to me.

Mama always said, "It's easier to catch a man than to keep one."

Even though my mother died very young I still think of her often and find myself doing things that she used to do...Like read magazines from the back to the front....

My Mom has taught - or tried to teach me - a wealth of knowledge that I try to remember and put to good use. I respect she raised us as a single parent in the days when single parents were nonexistent. She taught me that when I pay off a vehicle or other loan, to continue to make payments to myself (savings account) and then I'll have a nice downpayment for the next one - wish I'd listened!

My mom has gone out of her way to help me out when I needed it (and I've needed it a lot), and I really appreciate that so much. I try to do the same for my daughter without enabling her. Happy Mother's Day to all the mamas!

I had a life threatening illness when I was 7 years old and spent a whole month in the hospital. My mother stayed with me night and day and told me to do what the doctors told me to do so that I could get well. She kept me from being so afraid of needles, X-ray machines, and oxygen tents.
