When we found out that our SheSpeaks staffer Emily is pregnant and due in September, we just had to compare stories, grilling her about all the new ways social media has impacted the experience. Turns out that pregnancy itself has not changed since the dawn of civilization, but the way we handle it sure has: Gender-Reveal Parties! Birth Announcements on Facebook! Pregnancy Tracking Apps! We needed to know more...

Take lots of pictures!!
Make sure you take time and enjoy the little things in life. You can never get those moments back!
Don't compare yourself or your baby to anyone else. Everyone is different, everyone learns at different times, and does things the best they see fit for their own kids.
Don't act on advice t00 quickly, think about what you are being told and do your research so you can make an informed decision.
Try to avoid feeling over-anxious on whether you are a good mother!
Don't buy many newborn diapers - they are out of them in no time!
Remember people's opinions are just that...opinions. The best choices come from you!
relax
Be in the moment and remember any mistake you make, you are the first to make that mistake, move on and live.
Though you may wish each day of your pregnancy to fly by so you can meet your little one, take a breath and enjoy every minute of your pregnancy...its a special time and the excitement during this time is unlike an other!
Since my first pregnancy was so very long ago (1979), we just called our parents. That's what you did back in the "olden days"!!!
Be patient with yourself and your new baby. And enjoy every moment!
Get as much sleep as you can before the baby comes! Chances are pretty good that you won't be sleeping very much after delivery! Be sure to communicate with your partner! After the baby comes, it's stressful on everyone in the house - make sure you keep your lines of communication open to avoid any stressed-out blow ups. You might start out feeling clueless, but you'll be amazed at how quickly you get the hang of things. As a mom of 2 wonderful boys (ages 6 & 11), there's days still where I can feel like a pro or a noob. But, when your little one gives you a big squeeze - everything's better again! Just make sure you do what's best for your family & always make sure your child knows how much they're loved :) Congrats & good luck!!!

Don't get discouraged if you think things are out of control. It will all work out and things change constantly.
