2015's In-the-Moment Halloween Costume Trends and Giveaway

Each year we are introduced to a host of very in-the-moment costumes. Who can forget the Sarah Palin costumes of 2008 or last year’s parade of Orange is the New Black character costumes? 2015 appears to be a good year for topical humor halloween costumes, many of which were born right here on the internet.

Read on and enter to win a $50 Amazon Gift Card for a bit of Halloween costume shopping!

If we’re talking about being on trend, we can’t really have a 2015 Halloween without a Donald Trump costume. And apparently, even the Donald can be transformed into a suggestive costume complete with shorty-shorts, a red tie, a tiny jacket, and a pair of complimentary panties for some reason?

If you're a Star Wars fan, the reboot of the movie this year brings renewed interest in the francise. Dress up like Yoda or Dearth Vader, or of course Luke Skywalker or Princess Leia and relive your youth.

At this point in 2015, you’ve probably become well acquainted with the ‘Pizza Rat” video that has gone viral on YouTube. (And if you haven’t, you should probably check it out right away). The video shows a New York subway rat heroically carrying a slice of pizza down some stairs. I know that doesn’t sound very sexy, but in true Halloween trend fashion costume designers have found a way to sex it up with a revealing rat dress featuring pizza pockets.

Mashable reports about ‘the dress’ costume that is making it’s way on Halloween goers this year. For just $46.95 you can start up the old debate at any Halloween party: “It’s white and gold!” Soon followed by a, “NO! IT’S BLUE AND BLACK!” The costume itself is a dress that is half white and gold and half blue and black. But apparently the actual dress is on sale if you want to be even more authentic to the dress debate.

I think the "dress" is a great one! I think we will be seeing lots of minions and zombies in 2015

Like most people who are commenting, I don't like how "sexy" a lot of the advertised costumes are becoming. Most of the people I spend time with on Halloween are still into the creative aspect of Halloween instead of sexy. I'm hoping to dress up as a panda this year. A friend of mine gave be a ridiculously bulky, fluffy black and white coat. Some face paint, black pants, white shoes and rolled up green paper for bamboo.

Stop the sexy costumes! The blue/white dress is cleaver. We usually design our own costumes. My daughter won a contest dressed up as a female scarecrow once. It was so easy to do, and everyone just gushed over it!

I'd like to see more family appropriate costumes. In some stores I've seen tween costumes that I feel are a little too sexy to be wearing at that age. Kids are just growing up to fast, and it's up to the parents to enforce that and make good choices.

Scary it always is. I am going to be a demon, my oldest a burned zombie and my little one a witch (but she keeps changing her mind) 😄 Some of the new costumes are nice and some are just ridiculous, but it is Halloween and time to have fun no matter what you want to be!

I love that they made The Dress into a costume! Such a millennial move. I love it! I don't dress up, but watching everyone else get creative is always fun times!

None of these are interesting to me. Ditto on the "why does every female costume have to be sexy?" What is that message for a little girl? Come on SheSpeaks! Interesting and funny costumes win out every time and create conversation whether you are taking your kids trick-or-treating or attending an adult party. The pizza rat is just yucky. Star Wars is the most tolerable of this group.

I am going to be a witch this year. The new costumes are fun and different. My kids are going to be a cheetah and a peacock fairy :)

What most of us would really like to see are less promotion of the sexy Halloween costumes. I get that college age and maybe late teens are into their own version of parties for Halloween, but it's supposed to be primarily geared towards kids. I like the kind of costumes that can include the whole family. My grandson is planning to dress as the Cat in the Hat with a fishbowl as his goodie bag (One fish, two fish...) and his parents are planning Thing 1 and Thing 2 costumes. I can hardly wait. It's such a joy to see all the kids in costumes having fun.

Not so sure about these costumes. They don't seem that original and are more over reaching than anything else. I'm going to be making my own costume to go as Elizabeth from the game Bioshock Infinite. :)

I absolutely hate the "sexy" costumes. Why does Halloween have to be an excuse to dress like trash? This especially bothers me when it comes to young girls. Good grief. Dress like a vampire or a werewolf not a "sexy" vampire or a "sexy" werewolf.
