   By SheSpeaksTeam  Sep 28, 2011

Valentine's Day may be months away but that doesn't mean a great date can't happen tonight, this weekend or this month. Whether you're single, dating or married, it's always a good idea to have a few solid date ideas in your back pocket for the right occasion.

Dinner and a movie is a classic. But even the classics can use an update every once and a while. And, for many of us, a free hour, afternoon or  evening  is incredibly precious. So let's make sure that time is best infused with fun, excitement and a little bit of romance.

The SheSpeaks Team has put together 5 Great Date Ideas that are pretty easy to put into action. But we want to hear from YOU. What date ideas make it on your Top 10 list? What have you dreamed about? Or what great date did a friend go on that you wished someone would do for you? Let's share our Best Date Ideas and create a fantastic resource for SheSpeaks members to turn to whenever a little inspiration is needed.

And your efforts won't go unrewarded. Post a great date idea below and you'll be entered to WIN a Romantic Dinner for Two Gift Basket. A second lucky winner will receive a Picnic Backpack ($50 value) and a third winner will receive a Best Romantic Classics 100 CD.The contest will start Wednesday, September 28th and will end Tuesday, October 4th at midnight EST.

5 Date Ideas:

1) Spend an afternoon in an orchard

You probably haven't been to an orchard since you were a kid. Or if you have kids, you haven't enjoyed the experience alone. Take advantage of the fall weather and drive into the country together and pick some fresh fruit, take a hay ride, and get some apple cider. Then go home and bake a pie together!

Not sure how to find your local orchard? Try this website http://www.applejournal.com/trail.htm

2) Bring it Indoors

Sometimes after a long week, the only place you want to be is home. That's ok. Bring the romance indoors. Pick up some delicious dessert, place a blanket and pillows on the living room floor, light some candles, dim the lights and put on some relaxing music. Don't forget to turn the TV and cell phones off and you'll be transported to your own personal paradise.

3. Get your hands dirty

Take a class together! Cooking in the kitchen alone may not be that much fun, but doing it together can be a wonderful exprience. Sign up to make sushi, croissants or chocolate truffles. If you want out of the kitchen, try a pottery or dance class. The point is to get out of the house and try something new... together.

4. Stargaze

A star-lit sky can be incredibly romantic. If you live where the city lights won't get in the way, pack a picnic with wine, cheeses and sweets and find a great place to look up at the stars and enjoy the fresh air before cooler weather arrives. If you're near a city, don't worry. Visit your local planetarium. The view can be just as amazing. To find your local planetarium... http://www.planjam.com/planetarium.html

5. Build something you can play with

Take a trip to your local hobby shop and pick out a project you can work on together. Maybe build a boat, a rocket or a kite and then take it out for a spin once you're finished.

Now it's Your turn. Tell us your Great Date Ideas!

Something that my husband and I like to do, but don't have time for very often, is bring some hot dogs to grill and other picnic food and go our local river and spend the afternoon and evening fishing.

Painting with a Twist is so much fun! You supply your own drink/beverage so my hubby and I will take some wine with us. They supply everything else! Canvas, paint, instructions.. It's almost like paint by number but such a great date idea :-)

I suggest taking a weekday afternoon off! If you have kids, they will be in school, if not, well you're not in the weekend crowd! Head to the waters edge and rent a few paddle boards. Spend a few hours out on the water trying to balance and paddle. This will, hopefully, be a fun and entertaining way to not only get some exercise and fresh air, but also try something new with your date! After your rental time is up, you'll be sun-kissed and ready for a seat. Head to the open patio bar that overlooks the water and share an appetizer and a few cocktails...This is a great way to end the work week and kick off the weekend!!

I love the idea of doing a walking food tour in your city. Lot's of good quality time together, full tummies, and ideas of what restaurant to go for the next classic date night!

We like to go to the zoo or the aquarium and take our time walking around. Go to a park or nature trail and hike. We pack a picnic when going to a park. Go to the bargain movies alone in the afternoon one day when the theatre is not busy. A surprise meal and movie at home is nice with candles and some snuggle time on the couch or in bed afterward.

My favorite date night with my husband is going to see the lead singer from our wedding band (Jeff Fraser) play at local bars in Boston. The first time we saw Jeff play, mband and I were not even engaged but we knew we wanted him to be a part of our wedding some day. Now whenever we are able to see him, it reminds us of our wedding day and how much fun we had.

Date nights have been tougher and tougher since we're getting "older" and raising two kids! My plan for this weekend is to have a date morning - breakfast at a little local bistro, then a beautiful hike at a nearby park, just the two of us. This is going to be WAY more rejuvenating than trying to stay awake after a long week!! :)

For a random date on a weekend, my husband and I love to take our bikes and a picnic lunch up to the mountain and spend the day. Nearly every friday night we to a local Wine shop for a Wine tasting, followed by dinner at our favorite restaurant. We always look forward to our friday night dates, even after being together 14 years. Dating is they key to keeping marriage fun and both of you happy.

Since my fiance and I are semi-new to our area, we don't know a lot of places to go to take a mountain ride. To fix that, I get on MapQuest or GoogleMaps, pull up our area and find roads and trails through our local state forest. There is no better way to spend a fall date night than riding through the woods with the crisp air outside and the sweet smell of the foliage floating through the vehicle. We usually bring a snack and find a spot to watch the sun sink down behind the mountains.

What girl doesnt like a nice picnic in a park in the middle of fall so the weather is warm enough that it isnt too chilly but it is still cool enough if you are there long enough you can still cuddle with a blanket and some hot coco from a thermos! Then a nice walk followed by some dancing to your own music or even no music!! Being just the 2 of you in nature with nothing but yourselves to keep you company and occupied!

On our last anniversary, my husband and I got all dressed up (me in India dress), and went to a nice Indian restaurant in downtown Denver. Afterward, we stopped at the nearest Starbucks for an after-dinner-coffee and then just walked up and down the 16th Street Mall, chatting and people-watching. We didn't do anything extremely exciting (or expensive) but just being together, enjoying our friendship, and everyone seeing us dressed up, was so much fun!

We have several friends who don't have kids yet, so one of our favorite (budget friendly) dates is to invite a few couples over to our apartment and have a game night. Have everyone bring a favorite treat and we are laughing until all hours. It's a big group date, and a perfect way to get to know friends better.

One of my favorite dates w my boyfriend was going to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and wondering around the gorgeous trees and flowers. We also brought books and laid under a tree to read and relax. It was so fun. :)

What we have done in the past included a train ride into the mountains, a wine tasting event followed by a nice dinner of cheese and chocolate fondues and exotic meats.

Sometimes, I like to just hang out at a coffee shop and talk. There are often comfortable corners to sit in and the music/atmosphere is always great. We sip our coffee and maybe share a pastry, just catch up and dream about the future!
