   By SheSpeaksTeam  Sep 28, 2011

Valentine's Day may be months away but that doesn't mean a great date can't happen tonight, this weekend or this month. Whether you're single, dating or married, it's always a good idea to have a few solid date ideas in your back pocket for the right occasion.

Dinner and a movie is a classic. But even the classics can use an update every once and a while. And, for many of us, a free hour, afternoon or  evening  is incredibly precious. So let's make sure that time is best infused with fun, excitement and a little bit of romance.

The SheSpeaks Team has put together 5 Great Date Ideas that are pretty easy to put into action. But we want to hear from YOU. What date ideas make it on your Top 10 list? What have you dreamed about? Or what great date did a friend go on that you wished someone would do for you? Let's share our Best Date Ideas and create a fantastic resource for SheSpeaks members to turn to whenever a little inspiration is needed.

And your efforts won't go unrewarded. Post a great date idea below and you'll be entered to WIN a Romantic Dinner for Two Gift Basket. A second lucky winner will receive a Picnic Backpack ($50 value) and a third winner will receive a Best Romantic Classics 100 CD.The contest will start Wednesday, September 28th and will end Tuesday, October 4th at midnight EST.

5 Date Ideas:

1) Spend an afternoon in an orchard

You probably haven't been to an orchard since you were a kid. Or if you have kids, you haven't enjoyed the experience alone. Take advantage of the fall weather and drive into the country together and pick some fresh fruit, take a hay ride, and get some apple cider. Then go home and bake a pie together!

Not sure how to find your local orchard? Try this website http://www.applejournal.com/trail.htm

2) Bring it Indoors

Sometimes after a long week, the only place you want to be is home. That's ok. Bring the romance indoors. Pick up some delicious dessert, place a blanket and pillows on the living room floor, light some candles, dim the lights and put on some relaxing music. Don't forget to turn the TV and cell phones off and you'll be transported to your own personal paradise.

3. Get your hands dirty

Take a class together! Cooking in the kitchen alone may not be that much fun, but doing it together can be a wonderful exprience. Sign up to make sushi, croissants or chocolate truffles. If you want out of the kitchen, try a pottery or dance class. The point is to get out of the house and try something new... together.

4. Stargaze

A star-lit sky can be incredibly romantic. If you live where the city lights won't get in the way, pack a picnic with wine, cheeses and sweets and find a great place to look up at the stars and enjoy the fresh air before cooler weather arrives. If you're near a city, don't worry. Visit your local planetarium. The view can be just as amazing. To find your local planetarium... http://www.planjam.com/planetarium.html

5. Build something you can play with

Take a trip to your local hobby shop and pick out a project you can work on together. Maybe build a boat, a rocket or a kite and then take it out for a spin once you're finished.

Now it's Your turn. Tell us your Great Date Ideas!

My Husband and I both love what we call "Carnie Food" ...i.e. carnival foods- so once the kids are done having dinner , once a month we prepare a whole platter of just appetizers "Carnie food" for us and sit on the back porch with it - and just talk and nibble on finger food- it allows us to just talk and not worry about getting a sitter!

For dates my husband and I like to go on long, scenic harley rides, and then have a nice lunch and shop for antiques. We also love driving out to our nearby wineries, and spending some time there relaxing. Plus, it's a very afforadble date!

My husband and I sometimes have, "tastings." We sit in front of the fireplace and try several types of cheese, beer, wine, chocolates, etc... We snuggle up together and spend the evening talking to each other and when the mood strikes us we can head into the hot tub or bedroom. It is an evening without televisions, computers or telephones. I can't think of anything more romantic than looking into each others eyes and talking.

After having dinner at our favorite resturant. We could go for a drive in the car looking at the pretty Fall leaves and watch the sunset out in the country.

My husband is a long-haul truck driver so when he's home we like to spend most of that time with the kids. As an insurance agent, most of the time I can't just drop everything and be gone a week to two weeks with him. But sometimes we luck out and he gets a load that is close to home and I will go with him. We usually will eat dinner at the truck stop diner (not so romantic) and spend the night in the truck (not really comfy but it CAN be romantic!). We love it! It gives us some time to be US again, not Mama and Daddy and just focus on us. We have plenty of time to talk, hold hands, joke around and just be together as a couple!

My idea of a great (and cheap) date is to make a picnic lunch (especially since the colder weather is coming) and light a fire, throw down a blanket, and enjoy each other's company....all the while knowing that the nicer weather will be back again!

Every once in a while we head to a nice historical hotel and have cocktails in the bar. The atmosphere is elegant, there is often a piano player playing standards or jazz, they bring you little nibbles, and the service is pefect. The drinks might be pricey, but unlike dinner with all the interruptions from the server, we can concentrate on each other and just gab away. It's always memorable!

It really depends on the week but a good date night is sometimes dinner out and on the way back home grab some ice cream or frozen yogurt and snuggle on the couch with a good movie.

My parents will take our kids for the night. Then, we get whatever we want for dinner via takeout. We rent a movie from Redbox. And then we have a full nights sleep.

A great date night idea is to have a scavenger hunt in your house for things related to your relationship and end it with a romantic dinner for 2 at home. Budget friendly and easy to make. The scavenger hunt can be searching for favorite photos, the floor board you ruined while moving in etc. You can do a romantic scavenger hunt outside your home too. You can include the first place you met, the first kiss, your favorite restaurant etc. It's fun!

We went to the park and rented bikes and went riding (and walking a few times) on the many bike paths throughout the city. It was a really nice date which was fun and healthy for both of us.

My perfect date night is an evening at the planetarium, followed by a midnight canoe ride and then a picnic on the lake's shore. Our picnic supper would be fresh apricots, sparkling cider, cheesecake and homemade vegetarian calzones

Food festival! I'm a foodie so the perfect date for me would be with boyfriend to the local fall food festival. It's fun to talk and hold hands while sampling local cuisine. Take in the small music scene offered there too.

My husband and I love to go the bookstore and just browse! We can spend hours looking at books and magazines in the nice quiet environment. I usually buy a coffee and we might even splurge and split a cookie! I always leave with a list of books I want to read, then I check out my library's website to see which ones they have. It is really fun to just sit and relax with my husband, something we rarely do!
