Review and Win One of 8 Must-Have Cookbooks

For some of us, our guilty pleasure may be yoga, dinner with the girls, a mani/pedi, or that glass of wine at the end of the day. For others, it's the magic that can happen in the kitchen. It's the chance to escape the chaos that can consume us, and lose ourselves in creating something mouthwateringly delicious. Sometimes it may be breakfast, lunch or dinner. And sometimes, it's the sinful ingredients that can combine to produce simply divine desserts.

For Julie Grice, "When I’m feeling down and uninspired, I settle into the cooking section of the local library, flipping through cookbook after cookbook for recipe ideas . . . I can spend hours by the cookbook shelves in any bookstore. Oftentimes, my husband has to drag me away. "

Inspired by Julie and a woman's right to her guilty pleasures, we've assembled a list of cookbooks that SheSpeaks' members and the SheSpeaks team are raving about. From simple recipes for those just starting out to more complex recipes for those that have been dedicated for some time, the list of cookbooks below run the gamut to help you find the one right for you.

But that's not all! We want your input; we want to hear from you.  What cookbook has become a permanent decoration on your counter top and a trusted friend in the kitchen? Which has inspired you to try and try again? Which has produced "yums" and "wows"  from family and friends? Similarly, which one has left you disappointed? Which has led to cooking dont's and you wish you could warn others about? Well here's your chance. And for pitching in and reviewing a cookbook of your own, you could WIN one too.

Cookbooks are my best friend, because I am not a good cook. I have several and have signed up at online cooking sites. But I have Pasta cookbook contributing editor Jeni Wright. I love this cookbook. It is so easy to follow the recipes. The recipes are demonstated by pictures. For example pg 175 Penne with Shrimp and Artichokes, this recipe calls for fresh artichokes, I never cooked fresh artichokes but there are pictures showing me how to cut the articokes and prepare them. This is my favorite recipe, I've made this to many times to count. But that's why I love this cookbook.

Believe it or not, after 24 years my favorite cookbook is still "Surviving Away From Home: Where's Mom Now That I Need Her?" Written by Betty, Kathryn and Kent Frandsen. It has everything in it! From What to fix nutrition-wise to eat, to repairing your car and bicycle. Tons of good recipes from homemade macaroni and cheese to 6 different kind of brownies. I turn to this book atleast once a week. You should give it a try...you won't be disappointed. It makes a great wedding gift as well!

My go-to absolute favorite cookbook in my collection is the Better Homes and Gardens classic red and white checked one. It's the FIRST book I reference for any cooking occasion. There is a fab recipe for drop cookies in it that can make a wide variety of treats, depending on what you add, for example. I've owned this book since moving into my first apartment, but have used it since I was a girl, as my mother has a copy as well. The apple doesn't fall very far from the tree!

Can you believe I just learned of this cookbook a couple years ago? This cookbook is very thorough, and makes it very easy understanding. It is very thick, and has some good, basic recipes. Great starter cookbook.

I'd love to add a review, but I can't figure out how to get a new product that hasn't been reviewed already listed here. I keep getting errors. I'm on try # 4. I keep getting: System Error There was a problem processing your request. Please contact info@shespeaks.com if the problem persists when I try to add a new product. ***Edit*** Got it to work!

This is a hard one since I have probably about 30 cooks books, 2 boxes of recipe cards, and 2 binders of printed recipes from internet and magazine pages. I usually pick up my Better Homes and Garden cookbook and Todd Wilbur's Top Secret Restaurant Recipes.

I absolutely love cookbooks! I could sit for hours and look through recipes. The more beautiful photos included the better! "The Pioneer Woman Cooks - Recipes From an Accidental Country Girl" is a fun read. The recipes are a added perk!
