Doting on Dolls

I don't believe there is anything wrong with collecting dolls, or dressing them up, or displaying them. I amconcerned however when an adult forms "feelings" for a doll, or uses it as a replacement for a baby for any extended amount of time. It is not that I am being negative, it is just that I believe they should get to the root of their real problem instead of putting feelings on an inanimate object.

This is ridiculous. The $1000 these women use to buy the fake babies can go to starving people in third world countries who have too many children to take care fo.

I cannot judge. that said I totally disagree re: that quote about babies being the best part of motherhood. personally I'm having a blast in toddlerland.

While the idea of a grown woman pampering a "fake" baby can be a little crazy, I believe each person is entitled to do whatever they want, as long as they don't get over obsessive about it to the point that they go crazy. I personally just think $1000 or more is a little out there... but everyone has their own hobbies,

Just wanted to add my comments. I am a preschool teacher. I love kids. I also love dolls and dollhouses. I am married but have no children of my own. This is by choice. I spend my entire day with kids and like to have peace and quiet in my home. I think it makes me a better teacher. I absolutely love reborn dolls. I have several and they are beautiful. I dress tham for holidays but I am not crazy. I also decorate my 3 dollhouses for the holidays. I have just started trying to make reborn dolls. I hope one day to be able to create dolls as beautiful as some of the artists who have posted here do. If you want to see more of these dolls search on ebay for reborn dolls.

Many of us ladies are AMAZING people, some of those women sent my children clothing and toys and send money and support to my Husband and I when we lost our home and businesses in 2004 due to Hurricane Charley, these women are Not hurting any of you are they??? Then Mind your Own Business!!!! Is there anyone here that doesn't have a skelton in the closet that I couldn't pick apart???? Seriously..... I am a compassionate and caring person and that is how and why I started reborning babies! I had a few ladies in a nursing home who's Wonderful Family Members are spending their time Posting retarded comments on Blogs like this one instead of Visiting Mom or Dad so I started making these babies for my Very Lonely Residents Not Crazy but Lonely! I am a geriatric Nurse, A Computer store Owner, I also Own and manage my Boutique, Envy as well as raise French Bulldogs so I am not looking for a child to Steal, I have my own and half the community's children 3 days a week on average. I do not NEED the money I make from my babies as I make Plenty of money with the other "Jobs" I have so....KNOW YOUR FACTS BEFORE YOU START BASHING THE ARTIST! .....CONT

What may seem like a "crazy old lady or a Nutcase" to you may be an older woman with dementia who NEEDS the feeling of cradling a baby! I am not uneducated nor am I a nut case looking to steal someone's child , I have 2 Beautiful Daughters whom I Love and adore! I coach a LL fastpitch sofftball team and have been Volunteer of the Year for our school district 3 years so......How Weird or Crazy am I...Many parents like you all trust me with your children on a Regular basis!! I have many many parents who ask for me when signing their children up for ball each year as well as many grown children who come to me personally to take care of aging Mom or/and Dad! .......CONT

Good Morning All...I am J.Cross of TLC Nursery and recently heard of this site through another forum, one for Artist, and heard of the nastiness and basing that reborn collectors and artist were recieving here so I felt it necessary to come see for myself and to be honest I am very Disappointed in the HUMAN RACE!! Why is there so much hate? What are these women hurting holding a doll that looks like a real baby? Geez at all the hating for crying out loud! IF they are missing something in their lives that makes them want a doll to hold THIS makes them insane in your opinion? Wow you all have a crazy opinion regarding what makes someone insane.

If anyone has changed their opinion, I will make you one. Just let me know. This is a beautiful creative art form. It is delightful to see them become lifelike as they are painted and their hair is applied. I believe if you seen one you would agree. I would like to add the person who said do we let the grandchildren play with them. I would say no to my grandchildren, but I always provide other dolls and toys for them to play with. I have also made them child friendly babies, which they loved.

Again, TO EACH HIS OWN. I do NOT agree with "plaing" with something that is meant to be a collectable. I DO take my dolls out in public... If some one thinks I am trying to be a mom or am crazy,that's their problem..I know i am not,because I do not take them out to play with, I take them out to show the public,because many doll collectors still do not know about reborns and would like to add one to their collection,so I pass out business cards when I am aproached..I dont shuv it down anyone's throat either.. people emediately ask me for my card,because my reborns look so real and they are usually impressed and want to learn more about them.

cont... So why not take it a step up and use a reborn,its porpose is art and realism . Don't those doll houses that fetch huge prices look so real if you didn't know they were doll houses, if you saw them in a close up picture... You get what you pay for. Im sure theres many other things I'd like to say in response but you all need to do your homework,/research correctly (the media is usually far from the truth) and get a life. I have my own children, and I also work in a daycare,and I also make reborns and I am starting to collect them because they're cute,I like dolls. Yo udont have to like dolls,but stop hating and judging. most people do NOT "play" with thewir reborns. cont.... Seen a wax sculp ? They are clay sculpts made into vinyl so each ARTIST can paint them in their own unique way. Got little doggie figurines in a glass case ? Well,some people happen to have their DOLL collection. Dolls have been around a long time . Just because 1 person out of maybe a million or so is a little nutcase ,doesn't make buying or making these works of art bad . continued in next comment..As for playing with them... they are not meant meant to be "played" with Casey,do your homework. Yes,they can be handled for posing and to be held and admired. displayed in your grown childs old room as a little baby replica just as you would do with a sculpt or painting,or picutre of him/her . I have seen parents diplay cabbage patch kid dolls wearing their childs newborn outfits and resembling them,laid on their beds as DECORATION : )
