When it comes to smarts, the battle of the sexes is presently seeing more women step it up in the IQ department. New research shows that women are now scoring higher than men on IQ tests for the first time in history.

ABC News reports about the recent findings that show women are outscoring men on the IQ test when in the past women have tended to lag behind as much as 5 points at times.

It’s not certain why women have lagged behind on IQ tests in the past but author of this new study, James Flynn, offers some insight into the new research showing women stepping up in the battle of the sexes. Flynn says, “Over the last 100 years, everyone in the developing world has been gaining about three IQ points, but women have been gaining faster. This is the result of modernity. In every country where women have an equal chance of modernity, women have caught men [in IQ testing].”

Flynn goes on to say, “As we enter the modern worlds, our minds change just as our automobiles have changed. Where women can have an equal chance to interface with the modern world, they equal on IQ and surpass on academic performance.” And he may be on to something when discussing women’s academic success. New reports show that more women are graduating from college than men and earning higher salaries in metropolitan cities as a result.

What do you think of the news that women are now scoring higher on IQ tests than men?

What factors do you think have led to women scoring higher on these intellectual performance tests?
