Who doesn't love vacation? It's wonderful to escape the daily schedule, see new places and have someone else make you dinner.

But not every vacation is perfect. When I was a kid, my sister got a stomach bug at Disney and threw up on Goofy's shoe. And recently, when our flight to Chicago was cancelled, my family spent 8 hours at an airport just 15 minutes from our house.

While we can't prevent all the oops (sorry, Goofy!), read on for tips to avoid some of the bigger #VacationMishaps. Plus, be ready for your next trip, thanks to SuiteCase, a new company that sends vacation essentials directly to your hotel room or home. Enter below to win a free package. Bonus: there's also a special discount code for all of our members!

Here are some #VacationMishaps we've made, along with ways to avoid them...

Planning too much. Or too little.

No one wants to be so busy on vacation that they need another vacation. But you also know that if the kids are bored, it will never be relaxing. It's tough to balance everything to minimize the whining. I've found that it's best to plan one activity per day. That way, there's still time to enjoy that hike or museum, but also enough hours in the day for relaxation. So when I plan a trip, I look up all the things I want to do, and that's how many days we stay.

Not thinking about the weather.

I have a knack for always getting bad weather on vacation. It's become a recurring joke with my husband. But it has shown us to be resourceful and to plan ahead. So now we always have a couple of indoor activities planned before we leave (bowling and movies are good fall-backs), we bring rain jackets and mittens everywhere we go, and we are flexible about moving activities around based on forecast. Plus, we try to make the best of it - one of my favorite vacation memories is when we went swimming in the rain!

Keeping your phone in your hand.

It's so tempting to take photos of everything and then post them for the world to see. But after doing that, I realized how much I actually was missing. So now I have my camera in my pocket, ready for when my kids climb to the top of a giant rock pile. And then I put it away to head up there with them. I can still post on social after the kids are sleeping soundly and I finally have a moment to myself.

Forgetting the little things.

I love those little hotel shampoos - they make vacation so much more convenient. And then I look at my photos and realize that my frizzy hair does not love them back. Which is why I am intrigued by SuiteCase. They send packages of vacation essentials right to your hotel, resort or airBnB. Order a week in advance and it will be waiting for you when you arrive. SuiteCase can even send you extra sunscreen, since you don't want to spend your beach vacation healing from a day 1 burn!

I have forgotten my swimsuit!

Both my daughter and I have forgotten to pack pajamas for trips. (I guess it's now a family tradition.) Luckily, there was a Target right next to the hotel. Also, when a friend and I went to Europe several years ago, we definitely realized it's true: pack twice as much money as you need and half as many clothes. We ended up leaving our large suitcases in a train station locker in Paris as we traveled to Italy and back, and had to call home for more money -- which was a lot more complicated back in the 1990s.

The hotel we stayed at said they had cribs on their website. When we got there to check in they said they never carry cribs. So we had to put pillows around my son and sleep in shifts, not my definition of vacation lol!

I packed enough clothes for myself and baby Sophie, but I totally forgot extra underwear. It was hilarious, all this clothing I brought, but I wasnt comfortable to wear because I had no undergarments to put underneath! I had to wash my underwear and bras nightly and sleep commando. It was the most uncomfortable experience. Never again will I forgot the essentials. 😂

We were at Epcot, walking through the parking lot to the entrance. I was holding my granddaughter's hand. Next thing I know, I was face down on the pavement. I was so embarrassed. My kids and granddaughter kept asking me, "Are you okay?", while helping me up. They said that I tripped over a GIANT, ORANGE cone. I didn't see it. I blanked out, or something. They took me to the First Aid room, to get cleaned up. I scraped my right elbow (I have a scar), my right knee, and my left knee (it swelled up like a tennis ball and hurt for almost two weeks. I still can't put pressure on it.). The gentleman was so kind. He said, "You wouldn't believe how many people actually trip overs those cones." I think he was lying to make me feel better. I saw those darn cones on the way out. They're HUGE! The come up to my waist! I don't know how I didn't see it.

I grabbed my sister's passport instead of my own and didn't realize until i was all the way in the airport...oops!

My husband left the carry-on suitcase in the backseat of his car. That's where the passports and the money was. I had my passport in my carry-on in my hand. So we get in line and when he is asked for his passport he obviously cannot find it. Then we remember quickly where it was. So a friend of ours drives from work to the house , Cost AAA to open the locked car door, grabs the bag, RACES to the New Jersey airport, as the airplane starts taxiing down the runway is when the guy shows up with my husband's passport. This was an international flight from New Jersey to Lisbon. Then from Lisbon to Madeira island Portugal. So the guy was about 15 minutes late. Had he arrived 15 minutes earlier we would have been ok
