April 22nd is Earth Day! The day marks the anniversary of what many consider to be the birth of the modern day environmental movement in 1970. Earth Day was founded by Gaylord Nelson, who came up with the idea after he witnessed the ravages of the 1969 oil spill in Santa Barbara, California. Check out earthday.org for more information on the history of Earth Day as well as information on how to become involved with Earth Day events in your area.

GOOD LUCK!
We don't use any chemical cleaners in our house. Most everything can be cleaned using baking soda, vinegar, soap and water.
We use cloth napkins instead of paper napkins or paper towels. Throw them in the washer. No waste.
Aside from the fact that the whole "carbon footprint" deal is a hoax, I am a frugal person and recycle and repurpose. I use a clothesline at least 6 months out of the year. No one else in my neighborhood does this, in fact, they thought I was getting rid of my clothesline poles when we moved in and looked at me as if I was weird when I said I was going to use them!
I use cloth grocery bags that I make myself when shopping and use only ecofriendly cleaners with enzymes for my pet accidents and vinegar for mostly everything else. I also keep my electronics on power strips to turn them off at night.
I hang laundry out almost everyday in warm weather. This winter has been mild and I have been hanging my clothes out since February. In the winter, I partially dry my clothes in the dryer and hang it over/near the floor register or across from our corn burner. We've always turned the thermostat down, especially at night. We use everything we have until it is unusable. I put stuff out at the end of our road with a free sign on it. I give clothes to the neighbor that my Grandson has out grown. We put our electronics plugs in a power bar and turn it off when we are not using the items. I turn the lights off most of the day. I reuse the back of copy paper and cut up junk mail envelopes for scrap paper. I use baking soda and salt to scrub out pots, etc. We also have a vegetable garden every year.
Whenever I buy a baby shower or wedding shower gift, I always pack it in a reusable tote bag instead of a gift bag that way they can use it for all their future shopping trips!!!!
Walk or bike almost everywhere I need to go, compost materials and use in vegetable garden, and recycle everything recycleable.
I have a Keurig coffee maker. I use the re-usable filter My K-Cup instead of the disposable ones. And I add all coffee grounds and tea leaves to our compost and worm bins!
We celebrate Earth Month every day! We try to reduce our carbon footprint in many ways such as buying less, using less, and reusing/repurposing. I've also taught a lot of my family and friends about ways to save and help the environment. Every thing helps!
We use the reusable fabric bags at the grocery store, but when we get plastic bags at other stores, we reuse them, too. The ones that get ripped get recycled. :)
I empty my used Keurig coffee cup grinds into a bag.I recycle the plastic cups and dump the grinds on my acid loving shrubs and plants. They are thriving and very happy.
i bought a soda machine.... no bottles to worry about !
My husband and my best friend's husband call us "Light Nazis" because we go around and turns off light they leave on. But this is just a small part of what i do. We recycle everything our town recycling program would accept and our recycling bins are fuller that the trash bin on the pick up day. We pay bills online, so no paper waste there!
My husband and I reuse food bags and put used coffee grounds in them.
always celebrate earth day by coming around outside and picking up trash
