    Always use a mat or paper under the play table! My daughter likes to make potions with mixing colored powder with water....

    Paper tablecloths (white) with brightly colored markers....keeps them busy while waiting for the food/cake!

    I always make sure there are crayons and plain paper for them to draw while waiting for dinner and I have them help me add flowers they either picked or made out of construction paper and pipe cleaners, so they feel that they had a hand in helping set the table

    I place everything in a small box and let them put the items on the table, nothing breakable of course.

    A plastic shower curtain under the table and chairs. Ice cube tray for paints or craft supplies (beads, glitter, sequins, etc).

    I love the idea of using butcher block paper, my mind is blown ! Every Christmas I host a children's sugar cookie decorating party and this would make cleanup a whole lot easier !
