   By SheSpeaksTeam  Sep 28, 2011

Valentine's Day may be months away but that doesn't mean a great date can't happen tonight, this weekend or this month. Whether you're single, dating or married, it's always a good idea to have a few solid date ideas in your back pocket for the right occasion.

Dinner and a movie is a classic. But even the classics can use an update every once and a while. And, for many of us, a free hour, afternoon or  evening  is incredibly precious. So let's make sure that time is best infused with fun, excitement and a little bit of romance.

The SheSpeaks Team has put together 5 Great Date Ideas that are pretty easy to put into action. But we want to hear from YOU. What date ideas make it on your Top 10 list? What have you dreamed about? Or what great date did a friend go on that you wished someone would do for you? Let's share our Best Date Ideas and create a fantastic resource for SheSpeaks members to turn to whenever a little inspiration is needed.

And your efforts won't go unrewarded. Post a great date idea below and you'll be entered to WIN a Romantic Dinner for Two Gift Basket. A second lucky winner will receive a Picnic Backpack ($50 value) and a third winner will receive a Best Romantic Classics 100 CD.The contest will start Wednesday, September 28th and will end Tuesday, October 4th at midnight EST.

5 Date Ideas:

1) Spend an afternoon in an orchard

You probably haven't been to an orchard since you were a kid. Or if you have kids, you haven't enjoyed the experience alone. Take advantage of the fall weather and drive into the country together and pick some fresh fruit, take a hay ride, and get some apple cider. Then go home and bake a pie together!

Not sure how to find your local orchard? Try this website http://www.applejournal.com/trail.htm

2) Bring it Indoors

Sometimes after a long week, the only place you want to be is home. That's ok. Bring the romance indoors. Pick up some delicious dessert, place a blanket and pillows on the living room floor, light some candles, dim the lights and put on some relaxing music. Don't forget to turn the TV and cell phones off and you'll be transported to your own personal paradise.

3. Get your hands dirty

Take a class together! Cooking in the kitchen alone may not be that much fun, but doing it together can be a wonderful exprience. Sign up to make sushi, croissants or chocolate truffles. If you want out of the kitchen, try a pottery or dance class. The point is to get out of the house and try something new... together.

4. Stargaze

A star-lit sky can be incredibly romantic. If you live where the city lights won't get in the way, pack a picnic with wine, cheeses and sweets and find a great place to look up at the stars and enjoy the fresh air before cooler weather arrives. If you're near a city, don't worry. Visit your local planetarium. The view can be just as amazing. To find your local planetarium... http://www.planjam.com/planetarium.html

5. Build something you can play with

Take a trip to your local hobby shop and pick out a project you can work on together. Maybe build a boat, a rocket or a kite and then take it out for a spin once you're finished.

Now it's Your turn. Tell us your Great Date Ideas!

And, if you have skills in the kitchen and have great date night recipes to share, please check out and add them to the new Recipes section on the SheSpeaks website. Visit http://www.shespeaks.com/recipes

My husband and I rarely get any time together now that we have a 1-year-old. When we get a nice little block of time though, we like to take a walk in the woods or along the nature trail. It's a nice opportunity for us to be outside, it's usually very quiet and secluded, and we can talk about things that have been going on, or just walk quietly, holding hands. Something very precious, when one of us is usually holding our daughter and not thinking about holding each other!

My favorite date night is simple, fun, relaxing, and spontaneous. My husband and I have to face facts - champagne and sky diving are not in our budget and probably never will be. BUT a spontaneous night out for dinner and a competitive round (or two, or three...) of cosmic bowling are! I love the opportunity to eat at a sit down restaurant (no dishes, no fast food!), and my husband and I love the way bowling under a black light, with music blaring and the competition heating up, makes us feel young and light hearted.

I have been with my husband since 1998 and married in 2004. We have 2 girls (6 and 1). We don't have date nights, since we have no family, we ask friends to babysit. I want to pay them but they won't take any money. We enjoy our time together with both kids or one. When the older daughter is at school then we do stuff together, pick strawberries, or apples and have breakfast or lunch somewhere. We like to go to an Antique mall and look at stuff. It's just the reality of our life, no family, just friends so where we go the kids go. It might not be the perfect date night, but I enjoy our time together and I am fortunate enough to be able to stay home.

One night during the fall season we went out for dinner, coffee and then on a ghost walk (a guided tour)! It was really fun and interesting. If you get a little scared..you can just grab on to your husband/boyfriend!!!

I told my hubby it would be a fun night if we just went a few minutes from home to our "main st" and have dinner in one a few restaurants that we have there-one being a great pizza place and then go to the Fish hole for putt-putt and finish the evening off with ice cream at Big Olaf and coffee from Starbucks!

I like cruising in the car, just like when I was in high school. A lot of states have scenic highways, it's fun to take a cruise down these roads, then stop somewhere for lunch or ice cream.

I like to look at stuff... It doesn't matter WHAT kind of stuff I look at as long as I'm looking at SOMETHING!!! I know gas is expensive but I miss just cruising around with the radio on. Me and a guy with the windows rolled down and the radio turned up on some old rockin 70's and 80's tunes... (Would THAT be called "Oldies" now..??.... ) Fly through a chicken joint or grab a cone of ice cream and hit the park. Sit by the pond... and just watch.... (And maybe reflect on things in each others arms... does that make me mushy?.....) Afterwards a snuggle on the couch with a good book taking turns reading to each other in front of the fire place with a sweet glass of wine... some crackers and cheese... sigh.... do you think THIS is why I'm SINGLE??? =?

I think sometimes its nice to romance your guy. And with all the fall sports, what better way to spend the day but with your man and some passionate fans and hopefully a successful sports team. Even if its not a trip to the stadium, theres always a sports pub or having a get-together at your house. Nothing better than october/fall brewed beer, a crisp day, a little enthsiasm and a VERY happy man at your side. You will be the best girlfriend/wife ever!!

A nice way for my hubby and I to have a (very cheap) date- is to take a long walk together after dinner- the kids are fed, watching a movie. The house is locked. We just walk holding hands for an hour or so, smell the lilacs in the spring, talk about life- it's just really about being focused on each other's company- and we can sometimes have multiple dates each week!

A sunset horseback ride is great if you like an adventure. Or, a picnic dinner on the beach for the romantic.

Get a couples massage to relax and unwind, then go out for a candlelit dinner and dancing. This is so romantic. The massage makes you feel so calm and stimulates good conversation becasue you feel so peaceful and harmonious. The candlelit dinner and dancing sets the evening off as a night you will never forget.
