Miley Cyrus Goes From Disney To Sex Symbol

Most moms and kids know her as Disney’s child star "Hannah Montana, but 17-year-old pop sensation Miley Cyrus has been looking a lot more adult lately.  She has fallen under a lot of scrutiny lately for the provocative way she has been dressing and performing at her shows.  After all, she is not yet 18 and in the eyes of the public, still a child (though her appearance would put her years ahead).  Many are reminded of the way Britney Spears went from Disney star to sex symbol at a very young age.

It is clear that Cyrus is trying to change her image from child star to adult pop star, but many wonder if it is too soon for such a transformation and worry that she is just another example of the way children and women become victims of exploitation in the media.

In 2008, a then 15-year-old Cyrus drew controversy when she posed topless (covered by a sheet in the front) for Vanity Fair.  Many people at the time felt she was too young to be portrayed in a sexual manner and Cyrus went in front of the public to say she was embarrassed at the way the photos turned out.  Fast forward two years and she appears to be flaunting her sexuality while parents still worry that Cyrus is sending the wrong message to her young fans.

Famous celebrity blogger, Perez Hilton, is in hot water now for posting "up-skirt" images of Miley Cyrus to his Twitter account.  It is possible for Hilton to face legal charges due to the fact that Cyrus is still a minor and protected under sexual exploitation laws.

What do you think of the way Miley Cyrus is conducting herself in front of the media?  Do you think the way she dresses and performs is appropriate for a 17-year-old?

Do you think she is sending the wrong message to her young fans?

I do not agree with the above posts at all. It is a sad thing when a beautiful young girl like Miley feels she must portray herself in such a sleazy way at such a young age. Its definitely a sign of the times we live in , 20 or 30 years ago they would have NEVER shown that on tv. Dressing that way is not natural by any means and to think that is just goes to show you how much influence the media really has over the minds of folks. I will definitely say something to the folks who are making this sleazy and disgusting way of dressing fashionable... go put some clothes on!

I agree as well. We shouldn't judge her just because she is growing up! Yes, our kids loved her when she was little but people cannot stay young for forever. Its the parents job to teach kids right from wrong not some singer or actress. Parents can sheild their children from images that they dont want their kids to see so I think that parentd should just step up and parent!

I agree with illicitdolphin. Miley is growing up. She feels sexy and mature and thats how she wants to portray herself. I think her outfits are a little much but thats only because its something I wouldn't really wear. I personally didn't like her Hanna Montana days, but I love her now. Why does everyone expect child stars to stay children? This same thing happened with Britney Spears and Christina. It's like "ooooh her outfit is too sexy" but they don't want to say anything to the people who are making it fashionable.

Please...Miley is growing up and people are making a big deal about it. Every girl has a naughty side, especially when they are ready to blossom. Miley is only doing what is natural. It's not like she is standing in front of everyone buck naked waving her hands saying "Here I am, come and get me." No, she's just being Miley...wild, fun, and flirtatious. Nothing in the world wrong with that. Times have changed and I remember back when it was "inappropriate" for young girls to wear makeup without being portrayed as flamboyant and indecent. The public will always choose to think negative based on one's persons mistakes. And pretty soon it turns into a heap of flabbergasted gossip and a bunch of overly accused hearsay. As for her young fans, Miley has to appeal to all her fans. Not just young fans. She has a wide variety of fans and is therefor obliged to entertain all of them regardless of age.
