Very lucky. My daughter is in high school and they only serve healthy lunches. Lots of salads and wraps. Things like that.

My kids' menu at school is unhealthy: chicken nuggets and chicken patty that look simply evil, and pizza. The way veggies are prepared, they are simply not tasty, so of course nobody wants them. I will definitely send lunch from home for the most part next year.

I work in our school's cafeteria. We've always had good, healthy foods, but now we are going even more healthy, not frying anything unless we are running low at the end of the day and there are kids waiting, but that isn't often. We are offering lots more fruits and vegetables, but you can't make the kids eat them. We're doing what we can, but you should see the amount of food that comes back. Unreal!

No options, no variety we really do not even need a school menu because we know every Wednesday is chicken nugget day and every Friday is greasy pizza day etc. Salad is a small cup of lettuce with one small chunk of tomato. When they have sandwiches the bottom piece of bread is soggy and the kids won't eat it. Breakfast does have a few options but many choices are sugary cereals. My children eat breakfast at home and take their lunch almost everyday. Our school menu needs to be completely redone.

They serve a lot of fried foods and dishes that do not go together at all. My son has told me of molded sandwiches and such as well.

I am a teacher in a high school. Unfortunately, there are many students who go without a lunch because they feel the food is not appealing or not to their liking. Sometimes one does have to wonder how many more ways can you present chopped chicken in gravy, but the food is fairly healthy...wheat everything, fresh fruit, raw vegetables, yogurt, low-fat milk, etc. A major problem is the small portions given to the students...especially the big guys. It is embarrassing to look at a little plate of food that is meant to provide energy throughout the day, help the student focus and may have been the only food available to him since lunchtime YESTERDAY! If a student qualifies for a free or reduced lunch and he's still hungry, he can get another lunch, but has to pay for it. Fair enough...but when you don't have that $$ and your stomach is still growling...

It's my son's first year at a new school, so I'm not sure about their meals yet.
