Although I think 13-15 years old is appropriate IF there is plenty of adult supervision, use is limited and the parents have complete access to the page. If a parent is unable or unwilling to supervise then I agree with instantkarma...18 and older only.

I voted for 13-15 dependent on the child's maturity with some adult supervision of course.

I really think it depends on the individual child and how much he or she understands about the proper uses and benefits of having an account like Facebook, as well as the dangers and risks! However, I believe the bare minimum should be at least 12 or older, and he or she should be able to understand all possible consequences to their actions! No matter the age, parents should monitor daily the activities of their child until he or she is of legal age!

For me I don't have a facebook account. And I don't want my kids to open one nether. facebook is like the internet it good in one way but bad in other. It how you use it. for me it batter to keep out fire. I don't need to know what other people are doing and I don't want other people to know my business. Back to the question I think 18 or older to open an facebook account. Because older and yzer. Y facebook so everyone know your business. do you really want people to know you business? If you own a business I think it is a good idea to open a account other then that no.

13-15 is fine, with monitoring of course, but you don't want your high school kid to be the only one not using social media becuase "mommy won't let him". We live in a new age and preparing kids for FB and the like is part of it. My son is 14 and although he does not have FB we talked about it and addressed the internet as an entity....it's kinda like talking to your child about the birds and the bees.

I don't like facebook. My niece was hurt by an ex who called her names and posted private things of her to hurt her on it. Peoeple at my daughters school used facebook and youtube recently to post my daughetr and friends dancing but put fake audio to it to make them look bad and say bad stuff. My daughter won' goto dances now. Old girlfreind looked up my hubby and were inappropriate. My daughter wants no part of it. So far to he emails, texting and cell phones etc are enough to communicate with people who you want to keep in touch with. We also all use skype in our family and send videos and pics through more private methods.

My children have a Facebook page that I monitor whenever I read something I don't like I post on their walk for all to see and to let them and their friends know I do monitor what is going on
