Big birthday parties with friends should not be held every year. They should not start until the child goes to school and makes friends. Big gatherings for when the child turns age 1-age 4 are not for the child, they're for the parents. Inviting a whole elementary school classroom full of kids so that no one gets hurt for being excluded is ridiculous. The child isn't necessarily friends with everyone in her/his class.

I have always took cupcakes to my sons class that way he will have them with all his classmates.

I used to do that with my daughter, too, cubabygirl, then the school stopped allowing parents to do that. They said kids had too many allergies and health problems, and they didn't want to risk any problems.
