    Parents of a 6-year-old are responsible for a child's being late for school. Detention is a harsh punishment.

    Children under the age 12 in most places count on their parents to get them up and ready for school. It is the parents responsibility to teach children how to prepare for the next day at night so they help themselves become self-suffient.

    I'm very confused that anyone would hold a 6 year old accountable. It's the adults responsibility to take care of the child, and to teach responsibility, not the other way around.
