I get a lot of advise through my own stupid mistakes!!! We don't spend money often (because I control it) but it would be nice to have more! I just don't want to give up everything we have!!! :)
Even if it's only a few dollars or $20, take a small amount out of your check each time and put in in a savings account or even a piggy bank at home. Keep doing this and later you will have saved some. Maybe not a fortune, but every little bit does help. Good way to save for Christmas gifts and also just drop your loose change into that piggy bank!
I'm happy to say that my husband and I are, for the most part, savers. All of those silly little purchases really do add up!
I've handeled my own money and finances on my own since i was a young lady, and continue to do so .and i do very well on my own,you just have to realize what is most important to you when it come to finances or luxury, which weighs the most!!!!
Do I call Dave Ramsey my personal financial advisor? He's the one of really got us to understand the basics of money management; until we found him, we were really stupid with money. We've now cash flowed one through college, one is in college (cash flowing), next week we'll send our investment broker $4k to fund our youngests ESA's for 2013 (we save weekly in our ING subaccount for this purpose) and we paid our house off this past year. Without the knowledge we've gleaned from reading Dave's books and listening to his radio program, we wouldn't have any of these things going for us. btw, our income is not great by any standards. We've just learned how to pay attention, budget and save.
My son came home from school one day and after one of his personal finance classes, told me that his teachers recommended putting all of your 5 dollar bills in an envelope and forget them. I did this, didn't miss them and when I checked the envelope at Christmas time, I had over 100 dollars. Really easy way to save. I now find myself asking for change with a 5 in it so I can sock it away. Every little bit adds up
Kazsi13 - I love Dave Ramsey's advice. His words of wisdom have helped us save money and get on track financially! If anyone is looking for some great advice and financial classes that you can take his link is http://www.daveramsey.com/home/
I deposit 10 % of my pay into my savings account, now if it could only stay there!
I take all of my change and put half in a bank for charity and half for savings for a vacation (or emergency).
