Trying to balance being a single parent and possibly dating.

I had originally vowed not to date at all until my daughter was grown. I try to dedicate all of my non-work time to her. Now her father has started to see her a little more and I find myself with a little extra free time a few days a month. I am wondering if it is time to try to have a social life. How do other single parents manage this balance?
