Should I try a Keratin treatment ?

I have really curly thick hair that becomes unmanageable at times. My curls are tight and I hate the way it looks. I have long hair so I wish my curls were longer. Ive heard about Keratin treatments but I'm not sure if they're good for your hair in the long run. What results will I get with the treatment?

You can absolutely get a keratin treatment done. Keratin is a hair straightening treatment that conditions curly and unruly hair and makes them straight without any harsh chemicals. Now a days people also use keratin hair extensions with they have no time to get this treatment.

I have curly hair too and did a keratin treatment a few years ago. My hair was straight right after, but once I washed it, it became curly again. But the texture was so different - much smoother, neater and not frizzy at all. It made me love my curls. They don't recommend washing it that often, so it was not only prettier, but it was easier too. The only reason I haven't done it again is that it is expensive, and the process of getting it done was time consuming, and then I was told to leave it straight for a few days so it would set. I wasn't allowed to touch it at all during that time - not in a pony tail, not even tucking it behind my ears. I found that annoying. But I want to get it done again and I've heard different places have different methods.

I love getting keratin treatments! They completely change the texture of my hair. I go to a Paul Mitchell salon for mine and use the keratin treatment once a week at home! I highly recommend it for frizzy or dry hair.

Nooooooo!!! Love your gorgeous, unique, supermodel hair. Take the money you'd spend on essentially costing your hair in synthetic plastic and invest in a great cut and quality products. The keratin system does damage your hair, is expensive and high maintenance. For me, the Deva Curl cut and product line has worked wonders on my curls. Naturallycurly.com is chock full of tips, tricks and awesome message boards. I fought my curls for years and once I started loving them, I am more confident. I actually feel sorry for girls with limp locks. Curl power XOXO!

My daughter has thick curly long hair and was always super frizzy even when I got her deep conditioner done at the salon. Trying to brush her hair was a pain and easy to knot etc. I just had her do (abut 2 weeks ago) a Keratin treatment and it was beautiful - at first. Now her hair is more frizzy again, yet her texture IS better and still easier to brush. However I really am super disappointed that the straight did not really last longer and that the frizzes didn't stay away. I won't get that done at the salon again - super expensive...

I love it!! I have thick curly hair that is very unmanageable and different textures, especially in the back of my hair. For the first time in my life I can say I love my hair, and I am 43!!!!

I get Keratin treatments done routinely- IT IS DEFINITELY NOT LIKE COATING YOUR HAIR IN PLASTIC!!! It's very good for your hair! It makes your hair healthier than it was before you treated it and it helps to make your hair more manageable. Jerseygirl1, when you get a keratin treatment, it will curl back up after you wash it because this is not a permanent straightener, BUT- if you run a blow dryer over your hair after towel drying it will take about 10 minutes max to dry and it will be straight again. Many people get keratin treatments and don't know how to maintain them- I wish this wasn't true, I wish their stylists would inform their clients! To maintain it, you need to use sulfate free shampoo and conditioner, so you don't strip the treatment from your hair. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me!
