Leather sewing

I need to do some leather sewing and it will be a completely new experience. I'd like to sew some patches onto my leather jacket. I do have plenty experience with other types of sewing with and without a machine though. I'm not sure what type of needle to use, whether or not I should sew all the way through the lining. If I shouldn't how could I still put a good stitch in? And also what type of stitch I need to use. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

somethinfni can help with! I’ve never seen patches but from experience with other things I would suggest looking at videos to learn either a blanket stitch or a hidden stitch. As for the needle, they make heavy duty ones for machines as well as heavy duty AND leather hand needles.

I apologize for the typos and double posting! I’m not only new but it’s super late.
