My mom told me that I can do anything I set my mind to...and she was right. If I work hard, put forth my best effort and aim high, I can achieve it. My mom is one smart lady.

My mom always told me to pick my battles when dealing with my son. I am a single parent and she said some things are just not worth fighting over, so I always try to remember that

Don't rush through life, find pleasure in just being. When I was little I always was saying, "I'm bored." and my Mom would tell me this. Now that I'm older I understand this so well and tell my kids the same. Life goes to fast to want to rush it by.

Although it's been more than 40 years since she wrote it, my mother wrote in my childhood autograph book, "If a job has once begun, never leave it till it's done. Be the labor great or small, do it well or not at all." My grandmother wrote the same thing in my mom's book!

Always keep the house clean. Seeing everything in it's place helps me to relax. I don't have children, but I share the idea with my nephews.

My mom taught me to treat other people the way I would want to be treated so I still live by that to this day. I also taught this to my son but the main thing that I taught him was to always be yourself and to not let anyone else try to change him. Another thing that I taught him is to never treat anyone differently no matter how they looked, where they came from, how they spoke, etc. Let's just say that my son has never met a stranger and has always looked at other people as friends even if he just met them.
