We hear more and more about gluten free diets. I've read in books that gluten could be a "toxic" source for young children? Please explain. Thanks. _________________________________________________________________ what contains gluten wheat

So people can not handle gluten but that being said sometimes it is not the gluten but more so a specific veggie or fruit. I had issues and was told to go gluten free. When I still had major belly issues I started talking to my fnp more and more. Come to find out after trial and trials that I am completely allergic to the Nightshade plant family. This includes Potatoes, Tomatoes, peppers, jalepenos, chiles, and some tangerines. Which whole heartedly sucks. I love my veggies. But maybe its all the gmo's now? I am still not sure. I am 3 months free of these and have NO more belly issues. I still do make and eat a lot of gluten free but have found I can tolerate gluten in moderation. Its hard because if you have issues you need to elimate almost all of your normal eating habbits and start new. Then adding foods in one at a time helps. I have just noticed I feel better when I do not eat much gluten.

Look into research on GMO wheat - as the wheat we are eating today is not the same wheat we ate even 10 - 15 years ago. Almost all the wheat now produced/grown/ate is so genetically changed to produce a stockier plant with a large seed head (by genetically crossing wheat with non-wheat grasses) that 'wheat' is not actually wheat any longer. The genetically modified wheat may grow faster, hardier and give bigger yields, but our human digestive systems can't take it. Wheat that is wheat is not bad... but we have about 1% of true wheat left in our world.

I actually have a child with Aspergers and there is currently a suggestion that gluten intolerance may cause frustration and intense tantrums in kids .. I figured it's worth a try. There is ongoing research in this area, I figured it's good for the whole family to be as healthy as we can be but it sure does take more time to prepare gluten free meals!

I'm allergic to gluten and it messes with my digestive tract. Excess gas, bloating, and I go back and forth between constipation and diarrhea. It also leaches the vitamins from my bones. I have to take B-12 shots and extra calcium and vitamin D. I know other people that have it way worse than I do and I admit to not sticking to the diet very well. It's really bad on children where there bones haven't fully developed yet
