Could somebody teach a Lady to begin, from scratch how to cross stitch? I really want to learn, can you help me out, please? Thank you in advance!

OOOOH I CAN I CAN.... I love to cross-stitch and also tatting. But cross stitching is very easy to learn. I would start with a small project like a flower or something. They sell little kits at the craft stores. Then its all about reading and following the pattern. If your still want to learn let me know I will give you great online sites to go to and any advice you need. (sorry so late about this I just saw this post we need to have an others category...)

The other good thing to note whether you buy counted cross stitch kits or you get one where you just match the color, if the pattern is already on the canvas it may be easier for a beginner, stick to a relatively plain pattern to begin with, minimal colors....have fun!

you can usually find the small kits at dollar tree. It includes needle, thread, fabric & pattern. Sometimes dollar store has them. Walmart may still carry them altho walmart seems to be getting rid of craft depts. Michaels or Hobby Lobby will have cheap ones in the clearance dept. The ones with the pattern stamped on the fabric (those will be more than $1) are easiest so you don't have to worry about messing up your picture by miscounting. It's just exactly like sewing on a button with 4 holes, you just make small x's.

I've been a dedicated cross-stitcher for many years (my mother first put needle & thread in my hands when I was 4 years old!). All of the above suggestions are excellent. Another one I have is to go to a local independent needlework shop and talk to the owner. Many local shops also teach classes on cross-stitch, embroidery, etc, and they're from beginner to advanced. Happy stitching!

Has anyone made their own cross-stitch pattern? If so, I'm interested in learning how to do it. Thanks!

I have done many cross stitch projects that deal with many many different colors. I agree with rainstorms, get a beginner kit and start with one that is only has a few colors. Good luck Vernie!
