I get through the holiday season with lots of organization and planning -- no last minute stress for me!
When you're having family over, try not to miss out on what's going on because you're stuck in the kitchen cooking or cleaning up afterwards. I remember my Mom used to miss out on all the fun we were having chatting and playing games because she was so busy getting everything ready. If you can, buy the pie or at least use store bought crust or any other shortcuts you can and get back in with the gang. That's what it's really about.
We do handemade table decorations that are simple enough for the kids to make to keep them occupied on Thanksgiving morning (e.g. leaf-shaped name cards).
Don't sweat the small stuff!! And everything is small stuff! Focus on the family! Buy a KFC bucket and sides and enjoy your time!
My biggest tip is to relax and don't expect perfection. Just appreciate being with those you love!
I focus on family and not food
My tips for the Host or Hostess are to take as many shortcuts as possible. You can make store-bought pies and casseroles your own while doing the family favorites from scratch.
Booze, wine, beer, spiked cider, Holidays are normally always stressfull. There's always drama and someone always says something they shouldn't (cough cough my birth giver)
For fun, inexpensive gift exchange, set of theme of "products I love", and then gift each other the everyday things that you love. For me, these gifts would include: Burt's Bees lip balm, Werthers, and Lemon Pepper seasoning. This is a great way to share the things you love with the people you love. And if you really enjoy a product, chances are good that someone else will love it too!
I work! All of our family is 900 miles away, and because we can't always be with them, I choose to work on the holiday. As a nurse, I find it important to spend time with those who are hospitalized and cannot be with their families. It also gives my coworkers to be off and spend some time with their families at home.
Holiday survival tip is to relax, let others pick up the slack and create memories of happiness not stress.
My holiday advice is to not to try to do too much. If someone offers to help you out, let them. Don't take everything on yourself. Also, it's a terrific idea to have a pie party where everyone has a simple meal at home and then the rest of the family gets together later in the evening and everyone brings a pie or dessert. You have time with family, fellowship and yummy pies and coffee with very little effort.
I depend on my freezer to keep the dozens & dozens of cookies I bake fresh for the holidays & beyond. I try to make everyone's favorite recipe and add a couple new ones each year too. Family says I should open a bakery!
I survive the holidays by not having anything to do with family gatherings lol. Avoid the family, have a great holiday :)
My Amazon Prime membership helps ease holiday stress with gift cards I earn though out the year and usually quick shipping times.
