Stop Looking At His Abs! Game of Thrones Kit Harington Says His "Hunk" Status is Demeaning

Whether or not you consider Game of Thrones’ Jon Snow to be one of the “hunkiest” stars of the show it may be best to keep your opinions to yourself. Real life Snow, actor Kit Harington, recently voiced his disdain for being “objectified” by media and fans. The actor admits he sometimes gets frustrated when being judged by his appearance rather than his acting ability.

New York Post’s Page Six reports about the actor’s thoughts on how he is viewed by fans and how he believes women can be just as guilty as men when it comes to behaving in an inappropriate way. Harington is quoted as saying, “To always be put on a pedestal as a hunk is slightly demeaning. It really is and it’s in the same way as it is for women. When an actor is seen only for her physical beauty it can be quite offensive.”

From websites dedicated to displaying shirtless pics of Harington to articles featuring salacious titles and photos, admirers of the actor’s physique are not short on material. But Harington brings up an interesting question. Just because female actors are objectified all the time, does it make it okay for male actors to be treated the same way?

Harington prefers to refocus the attention on his art and often has a hard time avoiding questions he would rather not have to answer. He says, “It’s not just men that can be inappropriate sexually; women can as well. I’m in a successful TV show in a kind of leading man way, and it can sometimes feel like your art is being put to one side for your sex appeal. And I don’t like that.” He adds, “In this position, you get asked a lot, ‘Do you like being a heartthrob? Do you like being a hunk?’ Well, my answer is, ‘That’s not what I got into it for.”
