Do you think universal health care will improve the quality of health care in the US?

Universal health care is the subject of furious debate in the Federal Governement, the media, and across the country.  Supporters of universal health care believe that it will improve the the livelihoods of individuals and control costs, while detractors believe that it will limit choice and be a financial burden.

Do you believe that it will improve your own health and that of your family?  Please tell us what you think.  We want to know!

I would like to comment on what queenkatie said about the rich, horrible Republicans resisting the ObamaCare plan at the townhall meetings, there are plenty of "insert adjective" Democrats that are just as informed and making noise. Universal healthcare does not work. Take a look at Canada or Europe and see how it's going. Linetteb1 is correct. Unfortunately, it sounds as if you and your husband are a bit TOO EXPENSIVE when it comes to healthcare and would be "put out to pasture" if the universal, government run health plan goes into effect. Do you want a committee to decide that a medication or surgery is too expensive because you are too sick/terminal or too old???? Don't you want to be able to make your own desicions?? I know I do!!!

What the most disgusting part of all of this is is that while we will all have to "get permission for treatment", all those that are pushing for us to agree that this is such a wonderful plan for us and America will not have to go through the same process. Mr. Obama, friends and family will have the same coverage that they have now and won't have to worry about a thing!!! And yes queenkatie, if we were ILLEGAL, we would have free medical coverage, social security benefits that we didn't even pay into and a wonderful free education to better ourselves! I believe that healthcare costs are so out of contol because we give free care to so many illegals!!! The government SHOULD NOT run our healthcare! Remember that antique, The Constitution?!!! There is no right to healthcare!!!

With the economy the way that it is at the moment it could go either way, but for now it does not seem to be improving.

I THINK THAT HEALTH CARE IN THE US IS A BIG ISSUE AND HAVING A UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE SYSTEM IN THIS WORLD WOULD GIVE EVERYONE THE SAME COVERAGE AS EVERYONE ELSE. THERE ARE TOO MANY PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD THAT CAN'T AFFORD HEALTH CARE AND ARE DYING. WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING..

The problem with universal health care is that only so many surgeries, etc are scheduled a year. You could end up waiting years for a surgery.

Although it would be nice everyone having access to healthcare coverage, there are some real major issues that really concern me. I have a friend who lives in Ontario, Canada. She once explained to me that with their government offering them free healthcare, they ofter have to wait months for routine tests such as mammograms due to the high demand. In a life or death situation, I would certainly hope that a patient would be able to get in to have a test as soon as possible rather than having to wait months.

For a first world country, our healthcare system is appalling. They need to take a look at healthcare in Europe... no life is given a price-tag or discriminated against because of income (or lack of it). The medical industry is not something that should be used for profit and the drugs and pharmaceutical companies should be very ashamed of themselves for the way they are treating us with their outrageous prices. For those of you who still want to pay through the roof for healthcare, you can still stick with your private systems like they have in Europe, but please give the masses who can't afford the cost of health insurance a chance. At the very least, I agree with voyager1.. CHIP for adults would be great. I have lived for over 20 years in Europe with socialised medicine and never once had any complaints.
