I did not want to read this book. Three different clients brought it in for me to read. I passed the books onto other clients. I work in a salon and it's all anyone could talk about. Eventually, I broke down and read it one day when I was home sick. I do mean, one day! Now, I'm a fast reader, but that was crazy fast. I could not put it down. I got sucked in by the fabulous character development but the story, WOW! I did not want it to end. I am looking forward to the movie but I hope they don't change it around and ruin it.

Wow, I REALLY loved this book. I fell in love with the characters. It opened my eyes to what life must have been like in the 60's. This book was so educational that I feel it should be on high school required reading lists. I gave it to my daughter and she enjoyed it too. I can't wait to see the movie!!!

I just finished this last night! I fell in love with the characters and the writing style! I love when an author can write so well, that you become part of the story and make you want to just reach out and touch the characters!

This was absolutely one of the best book I have ever read. It could pass for non-fiction in my mind. I think I knew some of those women. I think it is a must read for the younger generation who never went through the sixties. I would love to see a sequel. I have already recommended it to everyone I know and to some people I do not know online.

Wonderful book! I can't wait for more books by Ms. Stockett. She brings a face to this terrible time in our history. My Mother had a nanny growing up like these nannies described in this book. Thank goodness my grandmother (my mother's mother) never treated her "Help" like this. Willie Mae was a part of our family and helped my Mother after I was born and my sister was born.

This was a fantastic book! I rarely get the time to sit down and read, so the books I choose must be worth my precious time. This one definitely was. I read it in two days over a holiday weekend, and enjoyed it so much that I didn't want it to end. I see that it is now being made into a movie. Normally I don't like to see movies made from books, but I am anxious to see this one when it comes out.

If you read ONE book this year - this has to be it! Amazing from start to finish. I found myself laughing out loud on the New York City subway, and wiping tears from my eyes too. Such a touching story of civil rights and the deep south in the 60's . Just saw the movie and it was equally as excellent - all though I always prefer the book to the movie no matter what the situation. GREAT gift for avid readers. I eargerly anticipate Ms. Stockett's follow up novel!

Loved it! A great read...

wonderful story!! I read it in 3 days, I couldn't put it down. You felt like you were living in Mississippi in the "60's. I want to see the movie, however I am worried they will ruin it like most movies taken from books.

This was a fantastic book!! I had to read it quickly and quietly though.... I am in a mixed relationship and regardless of the situation my in-laws do NOT approve of white folk trying to understand or relate to black folk.

I loved loved loved this book. It was given to me as a gift by my Aunt who is a teacher. I loved the story it lead about all of the different characters. It really made me open my eyes to the mistreatment of African American Women even in the 60's. However, I loved how the Author added the great bond some of the white and colored women made. With 3 small boys in the house, it took me about 2 weeks to finish. When I could read it I didn't want to put it down. I saw the movie and definitely recommend the book. I felt the movie left out key information about the movie.

This was the first audible book I tried on my Kindle. Amazing! The different voices for the three main characters added so much to the story. The characters are so intense I still think about them now that I have finished the book. I laughed and cried. The writing is superb. One of the best I have read this year.

I am from the South. I remember this time period. My great grandparents adopted a black girl and raised her with their children. She was the help for a family. As Oprah talks about her family, she had her some good white people. The odd thing about it was she was for segregation. I suspect it was her age. This has led to my sister and I reading the book and seeing the movie and discussing it in detail. We overheard people in a restraunt taking about it. They felt it had all been overstated. It had not. It is a wonderful book and very true to the time. I am hoping for a sequel. I came to love these characters and I am not ready to give them up.

By far this is one of the best books I have ever read! The author captures the environment and mood accurately. I felt like I traveled back in time. I read and interview with her recently and she talked about how the book had been rejected by numerous publishers. I bet those publishers are kicking themselves now :) This book is amazing and everyone I have recommended it too agrees. Additionally, I hardly ever say this but the movie is just as amazing.

Wonderful book. I have not read many books since I completed nursing school. I would begin one and just couldn't get into it. But this book I could not put down. I didn't see the movie first, and still have not seen it, but I dont' feel I am missing anything because the book was so detailed and interesting. I think I will read it again soon. For this book I'd prefer to give 6 stars!
