This is not a book I would classify for children. I read it and found it very intriguing and something that society could actually end up allowing to happen. After reading the first book, I was pulled into the story and went on to read the other 2 books in the trilogy. However, I would not allow my children to read these books until they are at least teenagers and it would be only after talking to them about it.

If one remembers the audience this book is intended for, you won't be as disappointed. I went in with relatively low expectations and found it to be refreshingly good. While the last book in the series had some disappointments, I can't complain; it kept me captivated.

Found this to be a compelling series. It was very dark, but it was well told. Maybe for the slightly older young adult.

One of my favorite books! Kept me hooked!

Love these books. Couldn't put them down once I started reading them

I enjoyed the series very much. Looking forward to the next movie.

Wow one of my favorite books ever couldn't put it down..

This first book in the series is intense and not recommended for younger readers. I have seen 3rd and 4th graders reading it and believe that they are really too young to fully understand it. I loved this book, the movie was ok, but not as good as the book - one of my more recent favorites.

I loved this series and the movies are also great. I am a middle school teacher and considering the age of the characters it was written for this age group. My one issue with this series is the violence. I do love the theme of the book, but it is violent...though, probably no more violent than the video games they play...that have no theme at all.

As usual, the first in the trilogy was amazing, the second one good and the third quite frankly sacked. It ended abruptly and didn't really explain what happened to them. They're traumatized and obviously have PTSD, and the author expects me to believe they're fine? They just had kids and moved on like it was nothing? No. I love that it has a strong female character who (in the book) might be mixed race, but it seems like maybe the author was on a deadline and didn't finish it like it should have been. Overall good series though.

First book I couldn't put down. The 2nd and 3rd book I found slower to read and not as action pack.

My kids have read this book so of course i read it first. I like how there are moral messages especially facing teens. Standing up for what you know is right. Standing up for those who can't stand up for themselves. And after reading this book I can say the book is better than the movie.

Love the series. It's one I read over and over. Books are much better than the movies (which are pretty good too!)

Such great books! I read all of the hunger games series, and I loved all of them!

The one book series I could not stand reading, but absolutely love the movie series for. The writing style was not something I could get in to but the story itself is absolutely compelling and eerily reminiscent of modern day society, no matter how much everyone wants to turn a blind eye towards it. I highly recommend this to anyone needing an escape from the dredges of our lives into something a little more horrific. Don't believe the hype the advertisements put on the action side of this series. The politics and the consequences and effects of those that uphold them are something to pay close attention to. They're sending children for slaughter as "tributes" to a government indicted tradition. That itself should tell you of the depravity of the Hunger Games world.
