I think this book was hyped up way too much...i never made it through the book. Got about half way and couldn't waste anymore of my time. Was not for me!!

Couldn't even finish the book....a lot of hype but it didn't live up to it!

I typically gravitate towards memoirs but this book was utterly terrible. I felt like the author was whiney and ungrateful. There are so many other great motivational books- skip this one.

After reading the first two chapters, I tossed it. The poor me and I want to be happy attitude was annoying. I wanted slap the Author.

The author is self-indulgent, and narcassistic!! I couldn't abide by her quest for inner peace at the feet of anyone but God! She's looking for happiness in all of the wrong places, sadly. The sequel is better but not much. She and her "lover" encounter difficulties upon re-entry t the US and at least there is some sense of plot in the is book rather than her 1st attempt. I give the sequel 3/stars.

This book was so boring, I could not even finish it. I have to say, the movie is much better then the book.

I really was not impressed with the book or the movie

I was interested in the book because I'm divorced, now married to a Brazilian, love to travel, etc. But when I read that the author had the book contract before even starting her journey, I realized it was all basically just a cop-out by a self-absorbed woman. Her life is clearly only about her own happiness. I read a few scattered pages but wasn't impressed with the story or quality of writing.

Started reading this book but was a very slow read. Did not enjoy it.

I felt I should offer a review of this book since I seem to be one of the few that DISLIKED this book. BLAK! Thought it was so boring and shallow. Because this woman is bored with her life and unable to find happiness in anything around her, she travels to other far away places to escape. Yes, she has some adventure but does that really provide a lasting happiness? I thought she was immature and shallow. There's my opinion... and that's what it is.. MY OPINION.

I agree with cammith. i was not impressed. I had to force myself to read it.

i had a hard time finishing this book. Maybe a shortened version would have improved it. And I thought the movie just as repetitive & boring. With all the hype i wanted to enjoy it but that didnt happen

The writer was so self-absorbed that I just couldn't make it through the whole book. Loved the part in India - she needed a little spiritual wake-up after treating her kind husband so shabbily. It is the epitome of the "only my happiness matters" lifestyle so pervasive in the United States. That said - it had some lovely insights and for my rather self-absorbed friends, I do recommend it as a book to get them thinking spiritually and moving in a more wholesome direction.

The Movie was pretty good, the book was ok.. Usually it is the other way around for me. I always seem to enjoy the book more than the movie, however this was not the case.

I had a hard time getting through this book. It was very slow going.
