In the last few years, candy makers went out-of-the-box with flavors such as Hershey's Candy Corn, M&M's Pumpkin Pie and Skittles Cauldron. We're happy to see that there seems to have been a change in strategy for 2018. Instead of messing with our classic candy taste, this year's bigger focus was on the design.

To our minds, no Twizzler can be better than the red cherry, but we were intrigued by the black and orange combo and the Twizzler-made spider that was on the package. Getting to DIY with our candy feels right for a kid on Halloween, so we thought it was worth a try. Our spiders didn't come out that great (no surprise) but it was a fun venture. Verdict: Treat
Last year, Reeses's stuffed their Peanut Butter Cups with Reese's Pieces. This year, it was crunchy cookie. Last year, Reese's had peanut butter cups in the shapes of bats and pumpkins. This year, it's monsters. And they also shrunk them to mini size. Once again, we question why they messed with the original. The cookie added a nice crunch to the cup, but there were so few cookie crumbs in there, we almost couldn't find them. The monster mania packaging is cute but the candy actually looks like an Easter egg. And the ratio of peanut butter to chocolate just wasn't right on those minis. Will we will eat every peanut butter cup we get and ask for more? Definitely! But as for the new versions? Verdict: Trick
Usually, we'd push candy over lollipops, but these may change our mind. They taste like the classic Jolly Ranchers in our favorite flavors: green apple, cherry, watermelon, and pink lemonade, but they've been given a Halloween makeover with a ghost, witch, skull or pumpkin on them. They're simple and adorable. Verdict: Treat
If you're a Sour Patch Kids fan like we are, then these are perfect for Halloween. On these gummies, the color does not always match the taste you expect. The kids had a blast biting into each one and trying to guess the flavor. It's a fun twist on a standard candy - we wouldn't be surprised if other candies do the same next year. Verdict: These Tricksters were a Treat
We love this idea. Our favorite chocolate candies glowing as the kids grab it from the bowl sounds like a perfect Halloween trick. And according to the package, they will "Light up the night - and trick-or-treaters' faces..." Unfortunately, in smaller writing, it says you need to put the packages under a standard lamp for 2 minutes before they will glow in the dark. We're not surprised, since that's how many kid glow items work, but it's still disappointing. Who wants to spend time charging candy? Guess we'll need to keep using our flashlights to get around on Halloween night after all. Verdict: Trick
For a real treat, check out this video we love from the TODAY Show which shows how a Snickers bar is made. Our mouths are watering...

My favorite Halloween candy is candy corn! I just found an organic version with only 14g of sugar per serving that is terrific. So even with diabetes I can indulge a bit without feeling guilty.
