When you think of Autumn, what comes to mind? Oversized sweaters, leaves changing colors, a warm drink in your hands? All of that and more, maybe?
The autumn season is here and we are ready for it. But even as you break out the the cardigans and boots for a walk through the fall foliage, don’t forget that you can also bring that feeling of autumn into your own home with some super simple decorating.

Paint a Pumpkin
We know that not everyone has the chance to go pumpkin picking, but how about the pleasing aesthetic of a painted white pumpkin from the craft shop? Better yet, painting pumpkins is a great alternative to the mess of carving one. Make some stencils of ghosts, jack-o-lantern faces, bats, or leaves (you can even buy the stencils) and use those to trace out the image you want to paint onto your pumpkin.
Fruit Centerpiece
Don't know what to do with all those apples you picked at your local orchard (or grocery store!)? They make a great centerpiece on your table. Mix those apples with other fruit, like pears or mini-pumpkins. Add acorns and pine cones to make it look like you plucked them right out of the autumn woods.
The Aroma
You can also have your home smell like the season by using air freshening sprays and candles. Apple cinnamon, pumpkin spice, and autumn leaves are super great and easy to find scents. Stores like Bath and Body Works usually have whole lines of scents dedicated the season. Sometimes you can even find great candles for a low price at the 99 cent store or Target. The candles are also a great way to decorate since they come in plenty of colors and designs.

DIY Halloween Decorations
While fall brings us plenty of beautiful things, there is always room for a little (not so) spooky decor as well. You are never too old for Halloween. Grab some cardboard, construction paper, string, and paint to make shapes to hang on door and drawer handles. You can create little pumpkins to stick on the doors, refrigerator, cabinets, and windows by gluing some orange construction paper to a piece of carboard and then cutting it out in the shape of a pumpkin. Then decorate to make lots of jack-o-lantern faces and anything else you'd like to see on your new spooky pumpkins! You can do the same with other shapes too, like ghosts, pumpkins, and, if you're talented, witches.
Lots of Leaves
You can bring the warmth of fall colors into the house by decorating with a leaf wreath or garland of leaves that you can buy anywhere from the 99 cent store to Walmart or Amazon. Similarly, you can achieve that look by using throw pillows, blankets, picture frames and candle holders in shades of orange, green, brown and red.
