Who doesn't love vacation? It's wonderful to escape the daily schedule, see new places and have someone else make you dinner.

But not every vacation is perfect. When I was a kid, my sister got a stomach bug at Disney and threw up on Goofy's shoe. And recently, when our flight to Chicago was cancelled, my family spent 8 hours at an airport just 15 minutes from our house.

While we can't prevent all the oops (sorry, Goofy!), read on for tips to avoid some of the bigger #VacationMishaps. Plus, be ready for your next trip, thanks to SuiteCase, a new company that sends vacation essentials directly to your hotel room or home. Enter below to win a free package. Bonus: there's also a special discount code for all of our members!

Here are some #VacationMishaps we've made, along with ways to avoid them...

Planning too much. Or too little.

No one wants to be so busy on vacation that they need another vacation. But you also know that if the kids are bored, it will never be relaxing. It's tough to balance everything to minimize the whining. I've found that it's best to plan one activity per day. That way, there's still time to enjoy that hike or museum, but also enough hours in the day for relaxation. So when I plan a trip, I look up all the things I want to do, and that's how many days we stay.

Not thinking about the weather.

I have a knack for always getting bad weather on vacation. It's become a recurring joke with my husband. But it has shown us to be resourceful and to plan ahead. So now we always have a couple of indoor activities planned before we leave (bowling and movies are good fall-backs), we bring rain jackets and mittens everywhere we go, and we are flexible about moving activities around based on forecast. Plus, we try to make the best of it - one of my favorite vacation memories is when we went swimming in the rain!

Keeping your phone in your hand.

It's so tempting to take photos of everything and then post them for the world to see. But after doing that, I realized how much I actually was missing. So now I have my camera in my pocket, ready for when my kids climb to the top of a giant rock pile. And then I put it away to head up there with them. I can still post on social after the kids are sleeping soundly and I finally have a moment to myself.

Forgetting the little things.

I love those little hotel shampoos - they make vacation so much more convenient. And then I look at my photos and realize that my frizzy hair does not love them back. Which is why I am intrigued by SuiteCase. They send packages of vacation essentials right to your hotel, resort or airBnB. Order a week in advance and it will be waiting for you when you arrive. SuiteCase can even send you extra sunscreen, since you don't want to spend your beach vacation healing from a day 1 burn!

My oldest daughter was so sick in Amsterdam we couldn't really do much. Got back to the US to find out she had mono. The trip before that was to Disneyland and the same child got food poisoning!

In 2012 we had planned an overseas trip and i asked my hubby to confirm the dates on the tickets, passports etc. We get to the airport and scan the passports and find my sons passport had expired 2 months prior. We had to cancel our trip, go to DC and get a new passport and rebook the flight.

My then-husband broke his ankle and had to have surgery a month before a trip to Walt Disney World. We had to postpone the trip for several months, and go in January instead of September, while he recovered.

We forgot to pack sippy cups for our young daughter who is, to this day even, very prone to spilling her drinks. Instead of hitting the beach first thing we had to stop at a store and buy cups (when we had a ton sitting at home already) and hand wash them at our hotel. Not a total disaster by no means but still inconvenient.

We were traveling up north to visit family. Living in the south, we didn't realize that trees and flowers were just beginning to bloom up north, so the pollen was in full force. We purchased allergy medications and a neti pot, but We were miserable for several days.

I forgot to pack underwear for one of my daughters. We improvised with a bathing suit bottom until we could get to the store.

We were on our way to visit my grandma when my oldest was just a few months old and we get half way there and realize we forgot the diaper bag! We won't ever do that again... hopefully!

I had credit card fraud while I was out of town, they cancelled my card and I only had $4 in cash on me to drive home, fortunately between the gas I had, the $4 in cash and the spare change that I had in my purse and under seats, I was able to make it to a gas station in right outside of my city (I was running on fumes at that point) and I had someone meet me there to lend me money for gas until the bank opened the next day.

One year, I packed everything I needed and packed very well - so I thought. Then, I realized that I completely forgot to pack shirts! I had to purchase new ones just so I could get dressed...

We went to San Diego on vacation a couple of years ago. It took us forever to get to or hotel from the airport because the power was out. We were able to check in to our hotel even though the power was out. But it was hot because there was no air conditioner. When the power finally came back it was 2 in the morning and our kids were fast asleep!
