The Most Unforgettable Oscar Gown of All Time |
At the Academy Awards in 1995, Lizzy Gardiner collected her Oscar for Best Costume Design wearing a gown made of 254 expired American Express Cards. "I'm broke, and I didn't have anything to wear," Gardiner said of her creation, which was an idea she originally designed for the movie "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" but it was turned-down by the credit card company for the film. However, when she explained that as a nominee she wanted to wear the dress on the Red Carpet – Amex liked the idea so much that it sent her 300 platinum cards with her name embossed on them! Lizzy and Los Angeles designer Salvadore Perez whipped the whole thing together in about 12 hours. After she won, comic David Letterman quipped, "I'm tellin' ya, American Express can't buy publicity like that." But they did! The very next day they bought the dress from Lizzy! And she also wore it in a series of magazine ads that said “You only need one in your wallet” and beneath in small print, “Congratulations – and thank you.” Some years later American Express auctioned off the dress. The proceeds went to the American Foundation for Aids Research. |

Love and remember so well the Valentino dress Julia Roberts wore, Vintage 1982. Wow!
Halle elie saab 2002 - classic
Gwyneth Paltrow is pretty in pink with her lovely Ralph Lauren 1999. It's my favorite because it's fun and flirty, and I love the A-Line style of dress that wearers can actually move around in. Everyone else wears the skin-tight dresses that are nearly impossible to maneuver in, and they always look so stiff. Gwyneth's gown was a refreshing change, not only the style, but the color as well. Most attendees stick to dark or muted tones, but she livened up the carpet with light pink. It was not only perfect for her tone and figure, it stood out on it's own merit.
love Anne's Armani Prive - 2009 dress! really gorgeous!
Nicole Kidman with Dior - 1997
Cate in Valentino
Halle Berry's entrance onto the red carpet was icon in her Elie Saab gown! 2002 Oscars!
Halle - Elie Saab 2002
Guy Laroche - 2005
I'm going with Halle Berry in Saab the color, the design, perfection!
Julia! Vintage Valentino, LOVE! :)
Although I don't see the picture here, I loved the way Natalie Portman looked on the night that she won for Black Swan, but if I have to choose from the photos displayed, I think the Guy Laroche is beautiful, yet very simple and a great color.
My favorite is Hilary's Guy Laroche dress from 2005
Cate wearing Valentino in 2005!
