The Most Unforgettable Oscar Gown of All Time |
At the Academy Awards in 1995, Lizzy Gardiner collected her Oscar for Best Costume Design wearing a gown made of 254 expired American Express Cards. "I'm broke, and I didn't have anything to wear," Gardiner said of her creation, which was an idea she originally designed for the movie "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" but it was turned-down by the credit card company for the film. However, when she explained that as a nominee she wanted to wear the dress on the Red Carpet – Amex liked the idea so much that it sent her 300 platinum cards with her name embossed on them! Lizzy and Los Angeles designer Salvadore Perez whipped the whole thing together in about 12 hours. After she won, comic David Letterman quipped, "I'm tellin' ya, American Express can't buy publicity like that." But they did! The very next day they bought the dress from Lizzy! And she also wore it in a series of magazine ads that said “You only need one in your wallet” and beneath in small print, “Congratulations – and thank you.” Some years later American Express auctioned off the dress. The proceeds went to the American Foundation for Aids Research. |

I love Gwyneth in Ralph Lauren it's just beautiful and classic.
Of the options listed, I would go with Halle in Elie Saab
Gwyneth Paltrow
i love pretty in pppppppink gwenyth 1999!!!
Julia Roberts Gown!
I wish Michelle William's sunny yellow gown was on here, but I really loved Anne's; so classy, and elegant and perfect for a star!
Cate in Valentino
Anne
The Ralph Lauren 1999 pink gown would be stunning on someone else - I like Gwyneth but I didn't think it fit her body well. But the gown is gorgeous - especially in a silvery white. I really wish I could vote for Jennifer Lawrences gown from last year. So from those above, I'll have to say Elie Saab - 2002 on Halle is the winner out of those featured.
Halle Elie Saab - 2002
Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive is classic!
Edith Head 1955. I LOVE the Tiffany blue color and the cut-dreamy!
I like Anne in the Armani Prive - 2009
Julia Roberts in her Valentino is my all time favorite!! I wish I could afford that dress!!
Love Anne's Armani Prive - 2009 gown. It's simple yet sophisticated. :)
