Are you aware that Motrin (the pain reliever) recently ran (and pulled) advertisements that were controversial?

Recently, the pain relief medication, Motrin, ran an online ad on the company’s website. It was about “baby wearing” — i.e. carrying a child in a sling or a wrap, rather than pushing them in a stroller or carrying them in your arms.

Moms did not respond well to the ad. They were offended that Motrin suggested that they carry their babies as a "fashion accessory" and that it was not necessarily good to carry their babies around.  Clearly the point of the ad was to show that carrying your baby might cause back pain and that Motrin should be your solution.

Motrin responded by pulling the ads.  We were curious how many people actually were aware of this?  Were you aware?  What was your take on this?

Yes (9.8%)

No (90.2%)

I remember have my kids in a baby sling. It was painful after carring them around for several hours. I had finally gave up and got a double stroller for my girls. This ad did not offend me. I would have jumped on the chance for some pill to take the pain from my body.

That is stupid! So if these people who overreacted to the ad saw a mother or father carrying their baby, would they be shunned? Told that they are silly for carrying their child as a "fashion accessory"??? Please! There are actually studies done that say children in a stroller facing "nothing" aren't as social as those who face their parents more often and have conversations. The commercial is fine - bring it back.

I am a baby wearer, I fully enjoy being able to carry around my child instead of pushing him in a stroller, I have 2 different carriers, and am currently 28 weeks pregnant with my 6th child! I still occasionally wear my 20 month old even though he is getting heavy and puts a bit of strain on my very pregnant body. But I cant see the problem with this commercial in fact I dont think that I even paid enough attention to it to have had an opinion in the first place!... OK here is the link to the commercial on Youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmykFKjNpdY And yes as a babywearer I rather take offence that the say its IN FASHION... its not that its in fashing its a great experience to have baby close enough to nurse when he wants, to not have to push around a stroller in a busy store or market. and it never really makes me hurt, per se.. I can see why they pulled it ....

I personally did not see this add. As a mother of 4kids who had has used a baby carrier would under no circumstances be offended about an ad like that. I used the baby stroller and the carrier @ the same time my children are fairly close in age. My oldest now being 7, and my youngest 2. I used 2 get back pain all the time and it was not from wearing the baby carrier on wrong. As someone previously stated that may be a reason y mothers backs may hurt. And i can assure you after a long day of carrying your child your back will hurt, heck mine did. But the fact that they put out an ad showing thats what there medicine could be used for, should not have offended mothers but give em some ease in knowing that if u have back pain from that or any other reason their product is there 2 help. If u ask me people now a days read 2 much into things and act fast before looking at things from all perspectives.

SheSpeaks is actually not portraying the ad right at all. The ad talked about how much baby wearing hurts and even touched on mom's being crazy. If you had seen the ad, your reaction would be completely different.

Wow....in this day and age, if that's all someone has to complain about, there's got to be something wrong with them!

I didn't see the ad, but it probably wouldn't have offended me. It seems silly to me to get so upset over something so ridiculous. There's way too much to worry about in this world than a Motrin ad.

You got to be kidding me....seriously? There are more things in the world to worry about than an internet ad. How about those DUMB commercials during network TV about Viarga?? Now that upsets me.
