Are you aware that Motrin (the pain reliever) recently ran (and pulled) advertisements that were controversial?

Recently, the pain relief medication, Motrin, ran an online ad on the company’s website. It was about “baby wearing” — i.e. carrying a child in a sling or a wrap, rather than pushing them in a stroller or carrying them in your arms.

Moms did not respond well to the ad. They were offended that Motrin suggested that they carry their babies as a "fashion accessory" and that it was not necessarily good to carry their babies around.  Clearly the point of the ad was to show that carrying your baby might cause back pain and that Motrin should be your solution.

Motrin responded by pulling the ads.  We were curious how many people actually were aware of this?  Were you aware?  What was your take on this?

Yes (9.8%)

No (90.2%)

I was not aware of the fact, but if it is not hurting or causing any danger to the child why advertise this. As long as the child is safe is really what matter and if the mom or dad is confortable in this position it should be ok

I didn't see the ad, but think about it, any mother knows that carrying a baby around, will give your back some pain if you do it for long periods of time.

I STILL like the idea that Mel Gibson's character tossed out it "What Women Want"; "So gentle, you can take it, even when you're FAKING a headache..." lol...as for the ad, I didn't see it, but, as a mom to a large child (11 pounds 11 ounces at birth) It didn't matter HOW I carried him...I got a backache/neckache whatever, lol. What they need to show is a few years down the road when the 2 year old is sitting in the floor banging on the pots and pans with a wooden spoon and the mom has a severe headache, lol!!!

How come everytime I am eating dinner I have to see some gross commercial about Viagra or some other male issue pill? Those are the ones that should be criticized. If I ever when the lotto or something and have a ton of money, I'm going to buy ad space during a football game and run tampax commercials the whole time. People, lighten up, it's only motrin!

I saw the ad, and helped with the twitter campaign that brought the displeasure of moms and the baby wearing community to the notice of motrin.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I never saw the commercial or heard about it, but I am sick of everyone being so overly sensitive and being so PC all the time!

I feel like this was an overreaction. I've seen a lot of people wearing these slings and they do it to feel closer or more in tune with their kids. Maybe they do because it's easier and getting tiny, wriggling feet through the leg holes of a different style baby carrier. I guess I can kind of see where the outrage is coming from because celebrities treated small dogs as accessories and now many of those same celebrities are having children. But it should be one of those think before you rant situations (always a good idea!)... If I were a parent who carried my child in a sling I'd be insulted that these parents insinuated I thought my child was an accessory.

I think it's insane that the ads were pulled, honestly. Definite overreaction.
