Do you consider yourself a tightwad or spendthrift?

We recently read that there are more miserly people out there than spenders.  So, we were curious how this might look for women?  Are we women spenders, as we have the reputation to be or are we careful and cautious with our money?

Tell us?  Are you a spender or "super saver"?

Tightwad|I hold on to my money as tightly as possible (39.8%)

Spendthrift|I love to spend! (60.2%)

Do you consider yourself a tightwad or spendthrift?

I don't need to spend money on things to make myself feel better and boost self-esteem. There are better ways to do that and they are usually free. I'm a "penny pincher" and even pick up coins from the street - usually enough to cover bus fare or laundry. I'm not ashamed. My Momma was a pincher turned millionaire.

I have to say that I am a tightwad even though I love to spend money. I will only buy stuff if I can get a great deal on it. I will search online and when I hit the stores, it's always the clearance racks. I shop at stores like Marshals, Ross, TJMax, Steinmart etc. When I go to those places of course I hit the sales racks first then branch out. I am very picky about what I buy and must absolutely love it or absolutely need it before I shell out the cash

I have always shopped with coupons and used sales to keep my everyday spending low. Although many of my friends laugh about my coupons, a lot of them are contacting me secretly to help them get started and find deals. However, I do like to splurge on vacations.

I love to shop, and I love to treat myself and family. I am always aware of what I am spending and I always try to get great deals. I love to sale shop and am constantly checking out the clearance sections.

vwgirl, I try hard not to over spend and save some money. In todays ecconomy its getting hard to save anything, with the price of gas and food you have to be very careful with every penny.

First of all, I want to comment on the fact that this poll is going to be way off because obviously people have misunderstood the term "spendthrift"! It doesn't mean "thrifty", as in: you manage your money, spendthrift means you just buy whatever you want without worrying about the cost. Secondly, I agree with several people that have said that there is a middle ground that isn't represented & that's where I fall. For the most part, I cut coupons, bargain-shop, hit sales & am pretty tight with my money...however, there are some things I won't scrimp on, and every once in a while I splurge on stuff just because I want to.

I'm proud to be a tightwad. I save every way i can possibly save.I don't buy it unless i need it. If i need it i only buy it on sale and with a coupon if one is available.I also use rebates on things i buy when they're available to save even more money.I often hit clearance sales when i need apparel items.I find that saving money makes me very happy...it's like a game to see how much i can not spend on something:)
