What do you think influences the brands and types of foods you buy?

Major food companies launch thousands of new products every year. Are there really that many of us trying new things this often? We started to wonder what makes us choose the foods we do? For some of us, our children's taste is a major influence, for others its an expert's opinion.

Tell us, what do you think influences the brands and types of foods you buy? Why?

My own tastes (50.4%)

Children/family (27.3%)

I try to make sure that my husband and I are eating healthy if at all possible - I'm very influenced by packaging that states its nutritional value (100 calorie packs, high in fiber, smart choices, etc). I'm less influenced by products that are organic as this isn't something important to me at this time. As I'm learning more and more about organic products, that label is also a factor that is driving my purchase behavior.

Since moving out on our own, my hubby and I are trying to eat a lot healthier. When we were living with his mom, we were being force fed (shes italian and loves to cook) foods that werent always that healthy. We were gaining a lot of weight and were unhappy. Now we eat a ton of chicken and veggies. We try not to bring any, or a lot of, junk food into the house so we arent tempted. Its been working pretty well so far.

I usually by according to my own personal taste. However, my daughter influences my purchases no matter how hard I try. If she doesn't like it, she won't eat. She does eat healthy so I don't have much problems there. Those people that say their children and family do not influence their purchases are only fooling themselfs. We are all influenced, subconcsiosly, by something or someone.

I shop according to what's healthy and what my family likes. If they aren't willing to give it a try than it's just wasted

I enjoy sending for free samples before I actually buy the full size, no matter how well they advertise. Coupons help me try different products also.

I like to cook nutritious food. I usually find a dish that I like and re-make it with heathy ingredients.

When the kids were younger (they're now in their late teens), I worried about the influence of the media and peers on their food preferences. I often caved in to buying questionable products because I risked having a child go to school without anything in his stomach only because he didn't like the healthier products of my choice. Now that they're older, I can see that a lot of my healthier food choices seem to have rubbed in. So setting a good example is a key to a positive outcome.

what invluences my choice of foods is the nutrional content, and the calories. I don't purchase foods that contain junk, fat, hydronated oils etc. I'm very health consicous and want the best for my body and my family's body.
