Fat content and calories are important, but for me, it depends on what I'm buying. For example, if I'm buying bread, I look at the ingredients first. I want to make sure it is made from whole wheat and has whole grains. The quality of the food is more important than calories. Fat content can be better controlled by eating "good" fats and calories can be controlled by portion control. If you just buy better food, then the fat, calories, sodium, etc, will be lower. Anyway, it's just what I do.
The two most important things I look at are fat and calories because I'm trying to lose a little weight. But I want something that is nutritious and doesn't make my butt bigger! lol
I am a diabetic so I have to watch the amount of carbs. I also watch the carbs to help with weight lost.
I really don't watch what I eat as well as I should but I look for partialy hyrogenated oils and for high fructos corn syrup...do you know how hard it its to find products w/o those two ingredients!!?? Something needs to change!
Hey peoples
I used to worry about how much 'fat' was in food, but now I look more at fiber. If there's enough fiber, your body actually burns more calories trying to digest the fiber. Plus, anything that makes you go p@@p once a day is a good thing!
I look at fiber, fat and sugar as those are what matter to me the most.
I look at the ingredients - I stay away from things I can't pronounce.
I always check sodium levels. This is most important in a family of high blood pressure issues.
I check the fat and sugar content - I'm an apple and do not need anything to contribute to the "muffin" top.
I always check the carbs. Fat does not make fat, sugar turns to fat. Count the sugar--it works!
