Brand name vs. store brand...hmmm...there are so many factors we think about when choosing between brand names and store brands. Price is often a big factor in our decisions, but we’re also thinking about product quality, convenience, and how comfortable we are with the brand.
Aside from price, what do you think about when choosing between a brand name and a store brand?
I'm attached to the brand names I've grown up with and always used (44.5%)
The brand name product is better quality (56.9%)
The brand name product costs less than the store brand (25.1%)
I'm concerned the store brand might not be available much longer (1.5%)
There's a few name brand products that stores can not imitate.
When the brand name is on sale and I have a coupon--which is most of the time--it is usually MUCH cheaper than the store brand, which rarely goes on sale and I never have a coupon for. Especially Safeway, which has terrible store brand products that are usually 20 percent more expensive than the brand name sale price.
Usually I'll buy whichever is cheaper...a few exceptions being Heinz ketchup, yogurt, laundry soap, and Charmin Basic toilet paper. But I actually prefer Kroger brand cheese and milk to the national brands and it's much cheaper and tastes better!
There are some products that just have no equal...like Oreo's. I have never found a cookie even similar in taste. Other things include Kraft mac and cheese, Dannon fruit on the bottom yogurt and so on. Other items are usually pretty good imitations.
I have found that some store named products are really made by brand named companies they are cheaper because they are not using their name. Some brand names are better quality you have to try store brand to see if they are as good as what you are use to.
I don't mind store brands for some things but when it comes to detergent or soap i go name brand. mainly because there is more soap then water in them.
I will but store brands for most things, but I find coupons for name brands in combination with store sales and doubles can be cheap or free and cost is my major consideration!
When I do purchase a brand name, it's usually something that only the brand name can accomplish. Soda for one, I can not buy generic. Also, brand names sometimes are cheaper, especially if you have a coupon. I do buy generic for a lot of things that I personally don't think matter.
The first two things that came to mind is Jiffi and Coke. I love my peanut butter and don't buy any other. If I'm going to drink soda (which isn't often) I like to drink the good stuff. I use to think the brand name was the best stuff but I'm finding out they can taste the same...not all things do.
I buy what works the best. Like Bounty paper towels. ...in the long run, costs less. Great customer service and being able to find out about a product when I have questions is also very important. Can't do that as easily with generic products, though some you can and they are wonderful products, that I would purchase.
