There are many reasons we select gifts for friends and family at the holidays. Buying gifts that are products we’ve tried ourselves helps build confidence that we know what we’re getting - and giving to others - so it’s easier to buy presents that we’re familiar with. And, while finding the perfect gift for someone is key, getting a great price with coupons or promotions is a nice way to sweeten the deal!
What is on your mind when buying holiday gifts for others? What makes you choose one gift over another?
The gift is a product I know and trust (26.4%)
Recommendations from friends/family (15.8%)
Holiday sales & promotions (42.7%)
Coupons (6.4%)
Convenience to find/purchase the gift (8.7%)
I have learned the hard way you don't purchase an item solely on holiday sale or promotion. Those are likely to disappoint you and the gift receiver the most. Go for recommendations from friends and family whom you know have tried the product and have confidence in it.
The biggest influence on my gift decisions wasn't on the list--I get people what they want or ask for.
Cutting cost is very important this year!
We don't live near our families and so because we aren't around them very often, we don't always know what they're "in" to. At Christmas and other gift giving times we usually trade wish lists. I then take the wish lists & look online, in sale ads & for coupons to make gift giving a little more economical. They get what they want & I usually get a good price.
I like to buy trusted brands, but I will also scout out to find the best sales for those items!
It is often a combination of all of these. I will use coupons if I have them and try to find things on sale. However, I often go with a brand that I know rather than something than take a chance. My family also asks what everyone wants usually, to make sure that we are giving good gifts. So that helps, too!
i cant wait for the sales off i go to buy gifts
I try to start months in advance! I keep my ears and eyes open in case someone mentions something they would like to receive. I also do a lot of online research for product quality, etc. Then I start watching for sales and special deals.
I get products I like and that are inexpensive its the best way to go. Especially if you find it cheaper then what another store was offering.
Unfortunately, I am a last minute holiday gift getter. Depends too on who the gift is for. My family gets most of my attention and selectivity with buying gifts (usually I think "is this something they would like?" and I buy it if reasonably priced. outside of our family circle I just look for the best deals.
