BP has approached U.S. regulators about resuming oil drilling in the Gulf. Should they be allowed to start drilling again?

How do you feel about BP drilling in the Gulf again?
We would love to hear your thoughts.

Yes, we need more oil and allowing drilling is the only way to find it (35.5%)

No, but they should be allowed to drill when the region has better recovered (35.6%)

No, they should never be allowed to drill again (28.9%)

Its about money for the government too. Our government heck even my local law enforcement is corrupt. The only way things are gonna change is for Americans to band together and make it clear what they want. For those who want the government to have more say so carry your butt back to England, Brittan, or Scotland because America was created for people who DIDNT want gov. in their business and telling them what to do.

I believe the evidence suggests that drilling for oil in US waters will not supply enough oil to make any difference to the shortage. Why take the risk in an area that is already so affected by the oil spill or in other areas that could become contaminated. The affects are long term and will take years to overcome. The problem is the short term memory of those who make the decision on whether to approve drilling.

I agree w/ finding alternative energy solutions, not continuing to do something that has such harmful effects.

Agree with Libby1260! Their track record in this disaster was so poor....they lied about the extent of the damage, they refused (at first) to let cleanup crews wear protective garments, and then after those and other instances that revealed their lack of integrity, they produced those annoying commercials talking about how great and green they were. I have no confidence in their ability to not repeat those kinds of things.

This country has so many natural resources, we have to be willing to find them. We have to stop our dependence on foreign oil. We need to find affordable energy solutions.

I am tired of gas prices. Open up the reserve we have in oil. We have enough stored for 30 yrs. What are they waiting for? The people to Starfleet rioting before they notice the 30k/ yr people cannot afford it. Their 6-7 figure salaries can handle it. Like they pay for their gas anyway. We do. Give the little person a break Obama.

I think that drilling should be held off until the region has recovered more. However I do not think they should not resume again until they have examined many scenarios for preventing any spills, as well as having multiple back-up plans for fixing any future incidents.

Here in PA there is a big push for marcellus drilling (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcellus_Formation) which produces natural gas. However, regulation, control, and taxation are a huge mess right now.

We need to bring jobs back to the US! I agree that the coast needs time to recover and BP should use this time wisely to prevent this from happening again.
