I did spend a bit more than I had originally thought I would but it didn't put us in a bind or in debt, we just had the extra cash. This year, I'm going to try to buy year round though. I've been hearing so much about it and it sounds like such a great idea!

My husband and I have been married 41 years and have all the material possessions that we need. We encourage family to donate to Heifer International. In our honor this year 10 ducks, 2 chickens and 1 rabbit were given to families around the world so they can become self-relient for food and income. One of my greatest worries is that one rabbit....hope it went to a family who has another rabbit of the opposite sex!!! LOL....

I spent what I expected, even a bit less. We have all cut back a bit in my family. We tried not to buy a lot of things that weren't needed. We tried to keep it more about spending time with family. It was really nice. I have a 3 yr. old and we didn't go crazy buying gifts she didn't need, she still had a wonderful Christmas and didn't think anything of it.

I start in January for Christmas Gifts. I usually buy 1 thing for each of my kids and their spouses. It's alot easier this way. Then all I really need to buy is stocking stuffers!

My husband and I keep a Christmas club account so that we can stay within a budget, but this year we definitely went overboard as we had a little extra money and decided to have a "BIG" Christmas as our kids are at fun ages-8,10,and 12. We normally don't do this, and don't ever go overboard on credit, but this year we were able to do so with cash. It won't always happen, but it was fun! We also sponsored a little boy from Africa, and played secret santa to a family we know who are out of work before splurging on our own family. I do want to add that the main area we went overboard for our family in was "classic games" we remember from our own childhood, so that we could engage our children in a little more family time. This brought about a lot of laughter and sharing time with our children, and on leaner years we will still have these fun games to play and provide family time!

I buy gifts throughout the year in order to keep the cost down and be able to take advantage of sales.

Shopping all year is the only way to go. I however have decided to keep a diary of the gifts I buy and wrap them as soon as I get a chance and tag them. I have a horrible habit of hiding them and forgetting I have them.

I was unable to buy gifts for my family this year as I have been short on money for bills, so I did the responsible thing and held out, although the holidays were still nice, seeing the family and all. I just want to comment on "threelittlewishes" comment..I think it is great that you had the money to splurge this year and you did so on others who really needed it. It is refreshing to see people who have the money give back to others.

I was determined not to overspend this year with hubby being out of work since last May. Plus I stayed away from the after christmas sales. Those are usually what get me spending - although bargain items, items I do not need. As for gifts this year, we stuck to smaller items that had meaning.
